I like to have my foot end several inches higher than my head end. Looks like your head end is higher. Everybody's different, but in your setup, I'd definitely slide toward the foot end during the night. Maybe I'm just more bottom-heavy!

If you definitely slide towards the foot. Then what would stop you from sliding to the head end?
@marshmutt8975

@@gearjunkie3412 It's just how your body is proportioned. If the foot and head end are level then most people tend to slide towards the foot end. That's why I like to have my foot end a good bit higher than my head end.

Expose for the highlights then bring up shadows in post if necessary. Ideally, get some lights or reflectors at the very least (not for backpacking obviously, but when you're in your backyard...)

So I picked up a 12’ tarp from Chris back when he was making them. Now that Liteaf isn’t making them anymore which dyneema tarp should I get for my new 12’ sparrow from dream hammock?

I've always been a tent guy, never yet used a hammock. As a tent guy one of my criteria for a good site is level, or put the head up a little, if I'm on a bit of a hill. If my head is down I wake up with a headache sometimes because the blood is rushing to my head. So, I really don't get why in a hammock (some) people tell you to put your feet higher than your head?

Gravity. The top half of your body is heavier than the bottom and ripstop isn't an abrasive material so people tend to slide down towards the foot end overnight. The amount you setup your foot end above the head end will also depend on the hammock brand. Hammocks like Dream Hammock and Dutchware gathered end hammocks are built with the bugnets having the same distance from end to foot box, and from end to shoulder/head area. It's usually suggested to raise the foot end about 6" above the head for that style. Laying diagonally, you hardly notice the incline and you don't slide down towards your feet. Hammocks like the Warbonnet XLC have very differently cut netting and they are made to keep your body back towards the head end. With this type of hammock it's suggested to raise the foot end 12-16" higher than the head. Its hard to explain but this doesn't result in your feet being raised above your torso, it just allows gravity to keep your body in the "sweet spot". Warbonnet also suggests hanging the hammock slightly uncentered between the trees with the foot end closer to the tree. This is because your body will be more on the head end and therefore your body will actually be centered between the trees instead of the hammock being centered. Super long winded answer, sorry. I hope it helped a little with answering your question about why people tell you to hang with the foot end higher.

@@michaelodell5738 Great explination! Lots of things I never considered. I'm definitely leaning toward getting a hammock and this is all very helpful in knowing what to look for and what to expect, thanks!

I actually have a solid physiological hypothesis for this. If you lay in a certain position (in the hammock) I believe it may put excess pressure on the prostate, and cause this. Definitely something myself, and many others have noticed.

I am the laziest hammocker... I put up my straps like whatever, get my ridge tight, underquilt up, tarp on, all done. I don't even check it, I adjust it zero times. How I put it up is how I sleep it.
