A. Freakin awesome name. B. I have to have that draw knife as soon as it goes up for sale. C. You do some amazing work and thank you very much for these informative videos. D. I am now hooked on restoring axes. I restored a really sweet double bit Collins axe last week thanks to all these videos you've been posting. My wife's deceased grandfather had an awesome 5lb Collins single bit that I'll be restoring next week. I also found a really really old roofing hatched that belonged to her great grandfather so naturally i must bring it back to it's former glory as well. It even has the initials of her family name etched in it so it should be super sweet. Thanks for the videos and please keep them coming. The inspire me to get back to my roots and I'll never drive past a garage sale again without feeling guilty Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello! Good video! Last winter I bought the Council Tool Sport Utility Classic Jersey -3,5# , 32'' Curved Handle from you - a very good ax with a wide range of applications, so this year I will definitely want to buy something from you. Greetings from Latvia !

Love that beautiful chunk of steel and wood. Nice job in the hafting! With that size handle it now becomes an ideal size for in the pack carry with enormous capability. Would be fun to take that up on the mountain and do a long weekend with that as my only sharp object.

Awesome. I'm definitely pumped for the draw knife from Elder Anvil. He makes some killer stuff. Now y'all have me considering a longer handle and a shorter handle on a Fox. Maybe I'll do both? It's so versatile.

On filing those ridges down in the eye, aren't they there to help hold the head to the handle? Do you file completely flat or just the ends near openings of the eye? I re-hafted a Council Tool suv boys axe recently with a CT replacement handle and didn't have any problems that I can see yet-seems pretty tight in use.
@ianmcnemar4 жыл бұрын
Sick! I've been wanting to get a Fox head and do this. This axe is really versatile and would totally rock it at any length. I may order up this exact project from you.

I’ve blown it many times by hitting the wooden wedge once too often and breaking it off. Usually still functional, but the look is wrecked. Love the look of that drawknife, by the way. What’s the blade length?

Gotta say I love the smaller handle. Maybe some day I'll be able to upgrade from my estwing hatchet to a flying fox with a short handle
@kevindunlap83204 жыл бұрын
All along, I was thinking it's too short of a handle for the fox right up to the point when you held it up. Immediately thought how great that would nestle up in my backpack. Great head, great handle and great video! Is desert wood too hard for a wedge?
@jollyrogerdsk4 жыл бұрын
I’ve always preferred a shorter handled camp hatchet but I really like how the fox feels with the regular length. Now I’ll have to get another flying fox and hang it on a 12”. Better to have both right 🏕🎣
@maelmissier33784 жыл бұрын
I really like this handle! Recently I made a handle for my hatchet but it was a little too long and uncomfortable, I think I would like a smaller handle such as this one.

That’s so good, brother! Love that stick. My FF is passing the jobsite workout with “flying” colors. (See what I did there? Me so clever...not) I recommend an 1858 patent Bailey’s #3 spokeshave for the fitting... but I may be biased. 😎 Great work!

Damn I actually like shorter handles. Now I want one of those for my fox lol 🦊
@theTrueOverlord2 жыл бұрын
Just a FYI, you should never use a draw knife to fit the head as it is way to easy to take off to much wood ( look at the chip out it left behind) unless it is the only tool you have. When you are getting close use a card scraper or a knife. And you are correct the draw knife should only be used as a card scraper.

It was painful to watch you scrub back and forth with the metal file. A metal file only cuts on the forward stroke. Dragging it back with any pressure dulls the file. Otherwise great video.
