12 years after this video was originally published but it’s still helping me hang a large painting in my new home 😊 Thank you! Gonna use the same technique for properly hanging a mirror later too! (It was crooked when I tried before 😅)

I never considered this approach before, but I just hung a 13lb wood-framed mirror this way and it worked a treat! A couple of standard two-pin picture hooks, rather than one-pin, and doubled-up strong picture hanging cord attached to the D rings, no need for wire

Dear Brian, I ve just bought a heavy painting of about 6 kg. Do you think these 2 little hooks can serve the job or would I need even a third one?
@lass-inangeles75643 жыл бұрын
Good video, but you made one mistake. No use of level. How do you know if your initial markings were level? After the final markings, you use a level to adjust up or down on markings before you nail up the wall.

Is that right into drywall without anchors???
@berthaantoinettamason92072 жыл бұрын
So is it okay to have one hook in a stud and the other in drywall? A nail can't go in a drywall anchor.
@brianrypstratheframingnook6982 жыл бұрын
yes - one in stud 1 in drywall is fine

Sir I have a paiting a larger than this one but it has no string at back for hanging. How should I place it on wall.
@brianrypstra9447 Жыл бұрын
Hello Aslam. If mounting to gypsum drywall and picture is lighter than 50 pounds, you should purchase some "Wall Buddies", else get a "zbar" cleat hardware setup is what i recomend.

No, you measured 4", not 5", from the wire to top of frame. (You marked 5" down on the wall.)
@brianrypstratheframingnook6983 жыл бұрын
Spasskyfan - Thanks for the reminder about how difficult it is to do a video when one is a professional framer but amateur video-ologist!! Just make sure you remember the distance measured at the back of the frame is what gets transferred onto the wall, (I did say "I THINK it was 4 inch" on the video - so I warned everyone that it may not be true - anyways thanks Spasskfan - good catch!!!!

How do you know it will be straight without using a level?
@TheFramingNook6 жыл бұрын
Yes - when all done - check it with a level
@munsters26 жыл бұрын
A level is not going to make the picture level if one of the two top corners you first marked was 1/2" lower than the other one. Should have started with a level picture or a level line on the wall.
@TheFramingNook6 жыл бұрын
You can place the hardware with the picture "approximately" level and there would be enough play later to adjust with a level if desired. If you need them aligned with other pictures or fixtures, or within 1/4" accuracy - you should use a level at all steps, but for 90% of installations & individuals, initial stages by eye would be sufficient.
@munsters26 жыл бұрын
RE:The Framing Nook. OK, I see what you mean. Especially with 2 hooks you can make some adjustment but with 1 hook , not so much.

Is it possible to use one of those hooks for a painting or should I you always use 2? I never used 2 and the artwork I hung is heavier than the artwork you hung but maybe I should use 2 hooks.
@brianrypstra28874 жыл бұрын
2 hooks are always better than 1 unless the picture frame is narrower than 20" or quite light (lighter than 4 sq ft of picture frame glass). 2 hooks hold more weight and the picture usually hangs in the same position over time.
@Kpictures_NYC4 жыл бұрын
Brian Rypstra thank you. I think I’ll do the 2 hooks since I have some artwork that is heavy and don’t want it to crash. I have another question, when I hammer in the nail, do I leave a little bit out from the wall but flush with the hook that sort of sticks out (where the nail is through) or do I nail it until it doesn’t go any further which would sort of crush the small area that the nail goes though making it flat. I’m not sure if I’m explaining myself clearly. It’s been so long since I hung up my art and I forget.
@angie6243 жыл бұрын
What are the names of the hooks?
@coachk24504 жыл бұрын
Not bad but maybe another tip should be to write the length and height done so you don't do all that good work and it ends up in the wrong spot. In this case tho it really didnt seem to matter.

Can I use these nails on cement walls
@brianrypstra28875 жыл бұрын
If hanging picture with wire on the back onto a concrete wall...you would NOT USE THESE hooks - easiest is to install a concrete wall anchor with a screw (get it from any hardware store - you need a drill & bit to install)...just dont thread screw all the way in, leave it protruding about 1/4", enough for the wire to hang on! Hope that helps!
