Click...Click...Click is never a good sound when starting your bike, especially on a beautiful day to go ride. Not to worry, I am here to help ya with changing your battery out. What you'll need is some patience and tools:
1/2" socket w/ extension, don't want to ding up the tins or scuff-up your other bag
Phillips Head screw driver
Electrical Tape (for the non-electrician in some of us)
New Battery (of course), take your old one to an auto parts store and exchange it for a new one, about $80ish.
Always remember - Negative side FIRST and Negative side LAST (very important) and always consult your manual for your bike specific needs. =0)
Thanks as always for watching and subscribe for more! =0)

Woke up Sunday to go to a 9-11 Memorial ride and CLICK, CLICK, CLICK....hopefully it is just the battery. Thank you for posting this now I just hope that pulling the fuse after turning it on will keep the siren from going off like others have said in various forums ;-)

Nope, I was supposed to leave at 12:30 for the ride and it was 12 when the bike would not start. The video did help and I will add that turning on the bike with the FOB nearby then pulling the main 40A fuse does keep the siren from going off when you disconnect the battery. I also went with the non-OEM bigger CCA battery and I am pleased with how the bike fires right up and no longer hesitates to start.

My bike is an FLHT. The curious George cable on mine is connected to a little black box that I assumed was a tip over sensor. But it could be part of the tuner equipment. I have no clue. I work on farm tractors, not motorcycles.😁

It's amazing how on some Harley models. All you have to do is remove the seat to access the battery. While on others, it takes 20 minutes to get to it?

Will the disconnecting of the battery have any effect on the alarmsystem?
@ScottuFD
@ScottuFD 2 жыл бұрын
My HD mechanic buddy says first step is to turn key/switch to on until security light goes off. Then turn key/switch off and quickly disconnect the main fuse, located under left side cover. Then go about following these steps. Then the last step is to plug main fuse back in. He said he's seen electric components, including the ECM ($$$), get a shock and fry whatever component. Worth the simple extra step to me to guard against frying a stereo or ECM. 🤙🏼

just curious, when you remove & replace it, does this remove all radio settings like in a car or truck.??? I just had mine replaced yet all my settings were somehow saved. Has me curious. Last problem I had was with the DCM. The dealer "wire tied" it tight to the bike so it wouldn't move. Now when my battery supposedly died a DCM message was on my screen. yet the dealer says it was the battery & charged me 208.00. Curious if I was ripped off or what??
@DirtHog365MV
@DirtHog365MV 7 жыл бұрын
It did removal all of my radio settings and had to reset the time after changing out the battery. That does seem awful expensive for a battery and few zip ties, do you know what type of battery was installed? Some of the newer style batteries are exceptionally expensive and doubt the dealership did any comparison shopping on your behalf. Even still, hope you back thundering down the road again - ride safe! =0)

haven't checked the battery yet, it's cost was supposed to be 170 but the sold it to me for 154, with 1/2 hour labor of 40.00 & tax came to 208. I'm wondering if they actually replaced it seeing as all my settings were still there. Wondering if all they actually did was stabilize the DCM again & say they replaced a battery, although the counter person showed me 2 slips with low cold cranking power, but it could be a cover up too.

the dealer tied the DCM a couple years ago, was wondering if that was the problem again this time & they blamed the battery & charged to make more money off me.

I'd sure hope that wasn't the case, but does make it painful in the wallet for sure. I looked that battery up and it's one of them good ol' "HD-Genuine" parts. Wow - they are proud of that battery, just over $170. The replacement I used was a standard battery, about $100 difference, and going through the local auto parts store. You may be able to get one cheaper in the future, especially if it just a battery replacement.

No need to remove the bag, just open the lid and it gives you easy access to the seat strap screw, keep the bag on, just my opinion
