Next level: Freeze dry the herbs, then vacuum seal them in glass jars. Excellent quality that lasts pretty much indefinitely.

What can the hyssop flowers be used for? Are they medicinal?

I can learn so much from you Rita! I planted 9 hyssops few years ago, enjoy the the clean dome shape I trim them into, but I don't like their smell. Would love to know how to use it.

I use most of my hyssop for tea...in the summer I do cut some of it to cook it with beef, duck, or venison

Hi, I am in need of some help please...I am growing it for the first time ever and have one bucket full. Three stems started to flower up the last few days where the other stems are still green but look like they will flower up soon. Do I eat The STEMS, LEAVES AND FLOWERS? not sure on what part of the plant is edible. I am going to make that herb blend, Zaatar with it. Please let me know what you think. ps...why does my plant smell funky, like a skunk? I rub my hand over the plant and its skunky smell, is that normal? What is the end TASTE I should be tasting? The tea idea, not sure about cause it smells so skunky, but I WANT This plant to work for me, I grew up eating zaatar and want badly to make this work. Any help you can give would be wonderful. I WANT This to be my favorite herb, but it smells so skunky....this is wierd for me cause I grew up on USING The dried herb....but in a mix of Hyssop with seseme seeds for zaatar...which is wonderfulllllI am now your NEW Subscriber!! So, you made it sound like I would harvest my plant BEFORE IT flowers?? I see other videos saying that I need to wait for the harvest, I am so confused. Right now because ONLY 3 Stems are flowering, should I go and harvest my plant NOW? Ofcourse before noon....as per your video, in the morning is best. I am growing to make zaatar spice ;-) Thanks!!Shelly

Hello and welcome to my channel! To me hyssop does not smell like a skunk but some people don't like the smell. The flavor is very hard to describe but my family loves it. Its best to cut the plant before it flowers but if there is some flowers on it and you need to harvest it, then it is fine to harvest. The earlier in the season the better as it gives the plant time to grow and come back from the harvest. The leaves, stems and flowers are edible and are mixed in our tea.

I am in Canada so I don't know where you can buy seeds from, but look at places in Africa that sell garden seeds and see if they carry hyssop. I can't sell my seeds out of Canada.
