I have grown yacon for a few years in containers, which works well as long as they are very well watered. The tubers taste like melon/apple/cucumber and are crispy and juicy. The crowns store well in dryish potting compost and split easily for plants the next year. I intend this year to try moving some pots into the (dry, good condition) cellar and see how well they store in-situ - they don't last long once dug up.

At first I thought it was cassava or yuca and did a little research and yacon is not the same. Is yucca the same as yacon? Yacon grows in the more temperate area of the Andes. In Peru, this tuber is grown in Amazonas, Cajamarca, San Martín, Pasco, Cusco, Apurímac and Puno. At first sight, its shell (rough and somewhat brown) can lead to confusion as it has the appearance of a yuca, but it actually has a sweeter and crunchier texture
