My thoughts on the death of the author stuff: I feel like death if the author is because we can’t know the authors full intent. Without explanation it’s up to the viewer to fill in the gaps to make up their interpretation. Also, art can be made from a limited perspective that can be made slightly more whole by the viewer. Art is subjective. And as such not only can the meaning you derive be subjective but the authors intention might change along making it. Interpreting art isn’t about being right and fully understanding what the artist meant. It’s about learning and communicating something in ways words can’t communicate alone. And in all communication, that leaves space for interpretation.

I feel like it works sometimes but it doesn't when you're trying to extract more from the text than was actually there. I think it's fine to have your own personal interpretation of a work but it's annoying when you force that view on others. I've had plenty of English teachers try to push insane agendas when talking about books written well before our modern day political climate. But again this is all about over analyzing media and how it can lead to you hating things you might otherwise enjoy.
