To do the plastic wrap game in a less wasteful way you could wrap the prizes in scarves instead of plastic wrap

great idea!

That sounds like more fun, too. Another alternative is packing paper, which comes with many online orders or the most tattered of any wrapping paper saved to reuse. After the fun, you can still recycle or compost it.

Love your videos! My husband and I usually self-nominate ourselves as the chefs for any vegetarian or accidentally vegan dishes (mains/entrees and sides, and sometimes dessert). We have learned to make extra because often even the most seriously sworn carnivores are intrigued to try our creations! It's a great way to introduce your friends and family to veggie food and show them it's not just lettuce or broccoli...

woohoo i love that idea! Veggie can be SO delicious!

Super interesting to learn about the history of thanksgiving, we have a slightly similar game to the Saran wrap one called dogs dinner but you have a bar of chocolate and a little metal hammer and you have to use it to break a chunk of chocolate whilst wearing mittens before a 6 is rolled on a dice by the next player.

I appreciate the support even tho you're from the UK! That sounds fun, similar, but less wasteful! Probably a good altnernative?

I live in Europe (where obviously there's no Thanksgiving) and I was very surprised how a local supermarket just tried to make Thanksgiving happen. Oh, and no risk of it being adapted to local history: they proudly branded a US flag. The lengths to which stores go JUST to sell stuff is scary... (no shade to Thanksgiving to US people in the US, though, just sad that stores just try to find whatever excuse to make us consume)

Hey on the invite thing, some older folks like paper for invite info AND a map if they have never been to location. So I would suggest you make them a PDF version. Then they can either print it themselves, or view on their phone.

I would suggest that if there is food left, you can distribute it to the homeless. at the same time, you can check all the extra warm clothes from home, which you can also donate to them.

I would like to know if you don't have a so-called dish rental service, here in Finland, for example, there is a practice that dishes can be borrowed from associations and churches. In my family, dishes were often borrowed from the church for family gatherings and they didn't cost anything as long as they were returned washed. church members can organize larger family parties in the church premises and use the church's large kitchen and dishes. often the space can easily accommodate 200 people. the church premises have a restaurant-level kitchen, of course it depends on whether it is a small congregation, sometimes there is a very basic kitchen and no restaurant kitchen equipment. however, the church forbids that alcohol may not be used in their party space, for that there are other association or private spaces that can be rented inexpensively.

wow I love that idea! I don't recall anything like that but I many libraries rent out kitchen items so maybe they exist here? That's cool!

Even if you still want a turkey you can buy just a breast with or without the organs. Also to reduce waste you can make turkey and noodles with the meat then freeze it. I wasnt aware that apple cider came in containers smaller than 1/2 gallons. I feel like they should sell machine washable reusable small bottles that AREN'T glass.

The saran wrap game looks hella fun. I wonder how we could make it eco. Like what could we use? If anyone has any ideas I'd love to figure that 1 out. I would never do it as it is but I really wanna do it in a way that is responsible

vegan food is also often suitable for many people with food allergies, e.g. gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free.

I do want to point out that I think you underplayed the horrors thanksgiving marked for indigenous people a little. While nothing particularly bad occurred on the "Thanksgiving" day, it marked a turning point for indigenous people where they would be brutally massacred just years later. A lot of Native Americans refer to it as a day of mourning. You said it marked a dark history to come, but I just feel like that was a very diluted way to talk about it. Native Americans are STILL suffering from the settling of America. I'd love to see you bee unapologetically honest on topics like this! Thank you for of course acknowledging it at all (plenty don't). Thank you for the tips! My family will never stop celebrating unfortunately so this is still helpful to know!!

For sure, thanks for sharing! I was just reading off the Wampanoag website :) for real, many families won't stop so the least we can do is make it a little better

I thought I was honest about this topic...what else can I say? Genuinely curious esp since reading right off the oral history of the people themselves
