That's what is all about! I started playing guitar a couple of years ago and I found the ukulele as the perfect instrument for me to have fun. The shallow learning curve; The instrument's size, making it easy to play everywhere; Ukulele's "unserious" character (but, only, at the surface); The supporting unpretentious community... As I play with no accompainment, what I like the most is learning chord-melody arrangements, but I'd love some mini-lessons of what you play at 29:58

I really got a lot out of this. Sometimes we get too caught up in learning the next song or the next skill and we forget to have fun. I kind of hit the wall after playing for about 8 months and I put down my uke for a whole month. Then I realized I wasn't having fun. I decided to curate my songs so I would have a list of performable songs that I enjoy playing. The rest were banished to a "not practicing" binder. That did the trick. I always enjoy playing my performable songs and often sit on my porch swing playing them. To date I have 26 songs on the list and try to keep it down to that number. Too many songs means they don't get into the rotation often enough to stay fresh. I've recently started actively memorizing some of these songs. I've got 8 memorized so far.

This is me too. I have around 20 songs memorized that I can perform or just play for my own enjoyment. Keep in a folder so if for any reason I should forget some chords or lyrics they'll be available. It's also nice to have a visual folder or notebook of songs even though I can play them from memory. I have a second notebook of songs I'm currently learning or working on and a third for songs that I like but not necessarily love to play all the time. In any case it's all about the fun and love of playing ukulele.

Your arrangement of Kids sounds like so much fun! Do you have a video tutorial of that one? I searched, but couldn’t find one.🤓🤩

Thank you for this. I needed to hear it's OK to just play for fun, and not pressure myself to always learn. I am content to just strum and hum :)

I’m so glad I watched this. It is so good. You have such a genuine way of reaching people Matt. By the way my fave song to play is Crossing Hemispheres :)

I looooove Blues rifts like you did but I have a hard time memorizing tabs. In the other side I’m pretty good at strumming and enjoy it a lot but I really want to enjoy blues rifts like that

Thank you for sharing your experience that I totally agree with, but in a way (to me) that is just the opposite of what is done on RC101. Many of the songs that are named as level 1 or beginner take so much time in learning that I loose interest and don’t see my fun factor - especially if I want to join the monthly challenges. I really like the idea of having some really short musical etudes that let me work on a technique such as the chord pattern you showed or the the blues scale you played. So if you want to share things like that I would be really happy… nevertheless I’m happy to be a RC101 member and have learned quite a bit in the last years. So keep on doing such a good work and thanks to the entire team…

Thank you for the kind words and the feedback. The points you brought up are reasons why I spoke about creating a new section called "Mini Lessons" in our post about where to take the site in 2022: rockclass101.com/help-plan-2022-curriculum There's a sample (video) lick on that post. I think that's what you want to see, in addition to the other topics you mentioned. Correct?

What can I do, when my arthritis prevents me from bending at the first knuckle? My left hand fingers the other strings when I don't need to. Should I just give it up?
