"The more you focus on what is outside of your control, the more out of control you feel." Such a great point!

Perfect timing. My alcoholic roommate is coming home from treatment on Thursday. I’m excited and scared at the same time.

Should I go get him alcohol or say no. I really don’t know what to do. If I do I’m enabling him if I don’t I’m controlling him.

Go to Al-Anon al-anon.org - they will give you all the support you need.

The concept of self love is good but when you are a person that has physical touch as #1 love language you constantly crave that from your partner. Physical touch is not something you can do for yourself and are at the mercy of the other person. I can buy my own things, do my own chores, tell myself I’m strong and independent and believe it’s true. Have my own hobbies and alone time. But self love doesn’t fill the physical needs void and is integral with feeling at peace. I wouldn’t even need a man if I didn’t want companionship, partnership and need sex. Maybe off topic a bit but it seems to never be talked about. Having an alcoholic spouse can ruin your sex life because you aren’t the priority, the booze is and you can’t exactly just go fulfill that need any other way or with anyone else?!

Yes this is such a hard issue because you’re right - physical and sexual touch cannot be replaced in a committed relationship. Often this becomes the last straw. Al-Anon is a good option for support though - and free hugs.

@@MichelleFarrismft I’ve actually made it through the light at the end of the tunnel. Four years ago my husband was that drunk in public sleeping in the bushes chaotic type. No license, couldn’t hold a job, etc etc. Fast forward to present day and a lot of ups and downs later, he had a stint of being sober for 9 months. Now drinks on his days off work, but is at least working and contributes again. Isn’t mean anymore and the drama is gone. But physically there are consequences from drinking heavily for 20 years. People think it’s just the liver but the liver affects a LOT of bodily functions. If men knew drinking would cause premature ED it may make them think twice, maybe?

@@Romiegirl-jq4rj I doubt it. The physical and psychological cravings are incredibly powerful. It makes no sense logically but they are powerless until they hit a bottom. Glad his drinking has gotten a bit better.
