HOW TO HELP CHILDREN CALM DOWN WITH A CALM DOWN BASKET AT DAYCARE

Young children often do not have the ability or skills needed to regulate and respond to their emotions in an appropriate way. This can lead to outbursts, tantrums, meltdowns, and frustration. To help a child understand their emotions and perhaps why they may be feeling upset, it's important to talk to children about their feelings and help them process their emotions in an appropriate way.
Calm down baskets are great tools for children to help calm themselves down and self soothe when they are acting out in inappropriate ways.
In this video, I'm sharing what items I include in my calm down basket as a strategy /tool to help with these toddler/preschool behaviours.

I borrowed some of my older daughters pop its this week for a 16 month old that just started in my care. He was feeling sad at drop off and the pop it was the perfect calming tool for him! The texture and easy to push button sounds he loved. Simple but worked! Well that and lots of snuggles 😅

I hadn't thought of using that ball for deep breathing. That is genius! I was on the fence already for buying one of those (trying not to bring more things in the home and cut down on spending) but I will definitely be getting one of those soon. I saw someone use it to make big bubbles. They put it in a 5gallon bucket of what I assume is their homemade bubble solution. It looked cool. So I love that I now know it has double usage now.
