I recently got an expert advice to NEVER do this to your cat with cotton bud to relieve heat! Although this might be well- intentioned, but VERY risky and uncomfortable for your cat short and long term. This attempt to simulate copulation makes them more stressed as it does not provide the ACTUAL relief they need, as well as in terms of eggs, ovulation and reproducing- not to mention it poses major injuries and risks to your cats health going forward. Acupressure is suggested as more effective if done correctly ( although it lasts briefly) but is a much more effective and safe way to relieve some tension (making sure to follow proper guidelines so as to not injure your cat). Alternatively, depending on your cat’s needs and personality, less invasive attempts such as keeping your cat in a calm environment with less stimulis, keeping them warm, playing soothing music, providing catnip are said to have helped ease some stress during the estrus cycle. We can also always step up and give our furry friend the extra love and attention they need during this time by giving a pet or two more, having more interactive play sessions to burn off some excess energy so she can rest better or giving her the space when she needs to retreat. Our indoor furry babies are stressed at this time and they need us. It seems pointless and cruel to try and simulate a natural process which brings little to no real relieve and confuse them even more. Also best to speak to vets for long term solutions depending on the state of your cat’s health. Please feel free to do your own further research on this. Much love to our furry companions ❤

sometimes, if the egg is not released in response to simulated mating then she will start caterwauling and trying to escape and peeing on things again after a few hours. If the egg is released though it may be a couple weeks before she goes into heat again. Sometimes they even have a false pregnancy for a few weeks.

Good video. This is a better way to respect your pet and help her. I don't support castrations. That's an awful act towards them. Vasectomy/tubal ligation is the vest option if you dont want your pet make babies but don't stop this. So this is the best way to respect your pet. You are a good person. And pet owner.

Wtf vet will do a tubal ligation or vasectomy on a cat? That ups their risk of cancer needlessly and you won't even know the cat is sick until it's too late. Spaying/neutering is the most humane way to keep domesticated cats, and dogs for that matter. Their brains don't benefit from the hormone cycles anymore than their bodies that have increased risks of cancer, kidney and liver problems as a result. You can hold on to whatever absurd, ass-backwards beliefs you want, but the rest of the world has moved into the 21st century where we have scientific evidence showing that domesticated animals not being bred are better fixed, and even you've for breeding should be fixed after their last litter/age of siring a healthy animal. It's basic animal husbandry and domesticated animal care in the modern world.

But there is people that do vasectomy and tubal ligation. So that's nothing impossible. And no. That doesn't rise the risk of having cancer. (Which is a huge issue in America. There are too many stray/feral cats due to people not spaying and neutering their cats. Which is far more cruel to allow cats to continue reproducing in such large quantities only to live outside in poor conditions and die prematurely from preventable disease and illnesses) Female cats, and dogs, can develop an infection inside their uterus called Pyometra. Pyometra has an extremely high mortality rate, meaning if your cat or any cat (or dog) gets Pyometra they will most likely die. Their bodies cannot naturally heal from this type of infection since their uterus fills up with pus. Antibiotics also will not heal a Pyometra on their own. The only way to ensure your pet survives a pyo is to spay them, and it goes from a relatively affordable and planned out surgery (spay) to an expensive emergency surgery in a matter of a few days. Pyo’s are incredibly dangerous because sometimes owners will not notice nor will the cat show signs of having a pyo until they are on deaths doorstep, and once it gets to that point surgery and antibiotics still may not be able to save your pets life. Personally, that is not a gamble I would be willing to make. Pyos’ that are not caught in time or addressed with surgery will result in your cats blood becoming infected, this is called sepsis and without a doubt they will die without medical intervention. There is absolutely no point in avoiding a spay because in the end if your cat does get a Pyometra they will need to be spayed anyways. All of that time, money and suffering of your pet can be avoided if you do the responsible thing and SPAY YOUR ANIMALS. Tubal ligation is not preferred over spaying because 1. It will not prevent Pyometra, which I’ll say one more time is DEADLY 2. Tubal ligation does not decrease the risk of uterine/ovarian cancer 3. Tubal ligation will not stop your cat from having heat cycles, so with a tubal ligation your cat will still have heat cycles which is extremely uncomfortable and sometimes painful for your cat, they still have a risk of getting ovarian/uterine cancer and they will still attract male cats and roam, which puts them in another deadly situation. Many cats/dogs who are not fixed get hit by cars from roaming. They will still experience all the common side effects of a heat cycle like roaming and yowling, also known as caterwauling. Also not doing a spay (which is a ovariohysterectomy) will result in your cat producing estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. These hormones can cause disruptive, aggressive and negative behaviors in female cats. There is no ethical benefits to a tubal ligation aside from solely preventing pregnancy, as opposed to spaying which has many health benefits, so with this being said you will have a hard time finding a vet that’s willing to do a tubal, it is simply unethical and not in your pets best interest. You are already putting your cat at risk when inducing them and anesthetizing them for surgery so you might as well take that risk where there are multiple positive outcomes. It is risk vs benefit and with a tubal ligation the risk of surgery outweighs the benefit of simply preventing pregnancy but still keeping your pet at risk for multiple health issues. Since with tubal ligation your cat will still have a heat cycle this means male cats will still mate with her, this is not ideal because although she cannot get pregnant vaginal sex with a male cat is extremely painful for female cats due to the sharp barbs on a male cats penis. Neutering your male cat, or dog, is also extremely important because it reduces the risk of testicular cancer and testicular torsion, both of which are extremely painful and testicular cancer can sometimes be malignant and metastasize, meaning the cancer travels from the place of origin to other organs in the body resulting in death. Testicular torsion results in one or both testicles dying, which means they will need to be neutered anyways. Neutering your male cat, or dog, is also beneficial because it reduces the risk of roaming (which again can be dangerous because it results in many being hit by cars) which can result in death for many reasons aside from being hit by a car. Unfixed male cats “tom cats” also have a higher risk of contracting FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus, similar to human AIDS) and FeLV (feline leukemia) both of which are contracted through bodily fluids (saliva, blood, nasal discharge) and tom cats contract either or these OR both of these from fighting, which is common among un-neutered cats due to their roaming and increased testosterone, which encourages them being territorial and fighting. This also puts any other cats in the home at risk of contracting FIV/FeLV if they are not vaccinated. Neutering also helps reduce your cat from marking territory/spraying and helps adjust their aggression, decreasing their aggression. For both male and female cats, and dogs, getting them fixed by spaying or neutering increase their lifespan greatly. Neutered/spayed animals tend to live longer, healthier and safer lives. At the end of the day, we want our animals to be happy and live healthy long lives and by being a responsible owner and spaying and neutering your animals, you are adding many years onto their life. That’s many more years of playing, cuddling, napping, kissing, hugging. That’s many more years of having a companion you can spend all of your time with, and they can have long healthy lives.

I have had a female show up to my house probably because I have a few cats. 2 weeks ago she showed up and now for 3 days straight. I think someone has abandoned her. She is in heat. I JUST got my youngest/newest rescue fixed. Her hair hasnt even fully grown back in on her belly. DOES THIS WORK? Will it knock her out of heat? I dont WANT to keep her but I also dont want other males comingnto fight my 1 male and rape my 2 females because some stray has shown up in heat. Maybe she will go home if she is knocked out of heat. Maybe I can keep her til next heat cycle and get her fixed then. Idk what Ill do. What I do know is I need help. If this works Ill do it. Ifnit doesnt... maybe a pet sanctuary can take her in. We have so few here in such a rural area and pounds only take animals found within the city limits. Im not in the city limits. I would consider keeping her if she was notnin heat rn. Any advice is appreciated.
