Brilliant. Non defacing and easily removable. I'm going to do this.

Another method I use is white crayons, if you need to remove it you can use a tooth pic and tooth brush the tooth pic is soft enough to not scratch the blueing on the gun I also use a paper towel to help rub it in

Always wanted to highlight the crest on my m1938 Turkish Mauser, but a lot of the ways I found were not the easiest to remove (get a damp rag and you're done) or apply.. this is wonderful.. Thanks mate.

When I worked at a tool factory I used isopropanol to remove blemished on protractor faces. I did also use acetone for tough blemishes but it did distort the finish. So I avoided it if not necessary

My house gets damp at times so guns I display have to be pretty well oiled, I'd be worried it would rust on that spot after wiping with my finger. But it looks awesome and obviously works well in your conditions.

I'd recommend a dehumidifier, I have one in my gunroom. As far as rust I've never encountered any because of this, even when I lived in Florida. BTW, I was just listening to Babymetal.

very simple. I use a more permanent method with paint. I use a toothpick and drop in drops. Like color fill. Then a gentle swipe of a soft napkin to clear the excess. I color fill with different colors. Ive even done it to sights on some of my hand guns. Same effect but more permanent even though simple nail polish remover takes out the paint. this is much simpler if you just want white.

Chalk draws in water from the air over time, could be an issue in some circumstances or climates.

White wax pens on amazon work wonders as well, and I’m guessing may stick around longer? But they are removable as well. I wonder what effect chalk or wax will have after several decades
@MilsurpWorld

Well, chalk doesn't have any moisture in it that could cause oxidation.

Good Topic. I love your channel. Your experience is very useful given.... well.... YOUR experience with old Milsurps! Need more videos on these type of topics! Danny, you own a lot of older rifles for a lot longer then me. I'm 54 and bought my first Milsurp in 2017 (A Mosin Hex reciever 1926). Share your knowledge and experience more please. How often do you clean them? How do you maintain them? What tools and products do you use? What do you recommend? Do you take them apart to clean them? How often? Ammo recommendations? Shooting tips? How can a shooter straighten out the sights on a Milsurp? More safety tips... Etc.

Did not come out even on my Turkish 93/38. Maybe the engraving is uneven in spaces? I couldn’t wipe away the excess without losing the color no matter what. May just need to use a Brownell’s laquer pen.

I would think that I would have to rechalk all the time if I oiled down the rifle.. Doesn't the water or gun cleaning oil discolor or wash it out? I would use something like a China Marker or crayon, but that's definitely more harder to clean out.
