Hey, you forgot to include a polymer Tapco or ATI stock on your list! How am I supposed to shoot my historically significant rifle if I haven't made it "tacticool" first? Maybe you should also include a dremel on this list. It's the best way to hack off the barrel and cut up the stock so you can save half a pound in weight. Us bubbas have spaghetti noodles for arms so we need all the weight reduction we can get.

I had a guy at the range tell me once something similar about my Garand. He asked why I kept that "old crappy" stock on it. (The Garand is all original with matching numbers.) I ignored him, my son shot 8 rounds and of course that wonderful "ping". Guy came over and said the gun wasn't safe to shoot as it had lost parts (ebloc). Ugh....

IMHO - If going to buy Milsurps: get a C&R license (and if needed a COE) it will save you the trouble of going through your local FFL. Nothing beats getting a Milsurp rifle delivered to your front door!

New subscriber here. You're absolutely right about bayonets: the stout recoil of a milsurp can damage a bayonet that's not up to standard. I had never considered that before, but it totally makes sense. Also, bayonets affect ballistics/performance. They create what pilots refer to as the "ground effect." The difference is marginal, and marginal differences become major differences at hundreds or even thousands of meters, which military rifles 100+ years ago where sighted for. For example, the Russian/Soviet (and, if I recall correctly, Finnish) Mosin Nagants were arsenal zeroed with the bayonet fixed for that reason. I really enjoy your videos. You have a very impressive collection. By the way, if you ever make it to Switzerland, be sure to visit the Swiss Shooting Museum in Bern. If you do an image search for it, you'll see photos of a three story staircase. At the first step is the oldest pike in their collection. With each step, there's a vertically displayed weapon that is literally step by step more modern than the one next to the previous step. By the time you reach the top step, you're standing next to the latest military issue rifle. Looking forward to your next video.

The amount of "Gunsmith" guys on KZbin is unreal. Around me there's half a dozen official gunsmiths in a very highly populated area. But according to KZbin, at least 74% of the population is a Gunsmith. Best one of them I've found, one guy swearing up and down that the AK-47/AKM were absolute copies of the STG44. Apparently, having a different action, bolt design, cartridge specs, manufacturing methodology and trigger design do not constitute different gun designs.

Hugo Schmeisser helped design the gun. That's an absolute fact. He was captured after the war by the Russians and forced to work for them. Kalashnikov admitted to this himself that he worked with Schmeisser.

@@hunter5502000 “Schmeisser worked with Kalashnikov” is a pretty far cry from “Schmeisser designed the gun himself.” I’m far from an expert on this subject, but my understanding is that the Soviets were primarily interested in Schmeisser’s knowledge of German stamping techniques and wanted him to improve Russian arms production. If Schmeisser was involved with the Ak platform at all, it was almost certainly at the production level.

I agree with the content of your list, but I'd place stripper clips as #2 just after a sling. Especially as a collector that uses most of my rifles in a practical sense, hunting, etc I can't emphasize how useful stripper clips are just for general carry of spare rounds or just loading and go when you 1st hit the woods.

. Thanks for all your videos, I really enjoy your reviews along with the other vintage firearm reviewers on KZbin. I agree with your list except most military rifles were issued with a bayonet and a sling (except for some carbines). I feel an original bayonet should be the number 1 item on your list and a sling would be the number 2 item. No military rifle is complete unless it has those items which are inertial parts of the weapon if they were originally attached to the rifle when it was issued to the solders. Thanks again for your videos.

What type of rifle do you experience the most defects with? I collect Mausers and Enfields. Enfields have by far the most issues. Stock cracks, magazine feed issues, extractor spring breakages, headspacing as they get old, buttstocks coming loose while shooting. Yes, I know how to fix all these, it is just Enfields don't age gracefully and i have ones going back to the 1890s. I also have Mausers dating from the 1890s. Now for my list of Mauser problems. 1) ___________(still waiting)______.

We were successful in 2019, with no new gun laws. I think everyone else should too. We need support, to reverse ths current laws on the books. #repealtheNFA

Would you recommend buying a muzzle cap/cover to protect the crown of the barrel when cleaning it? I'm really tired, crown might be the wrong word. My first gun ever was an M48A I picked up just before the prices went skyward. Your video on the Mauser action was the first I watched and taught me so much. Thank you for that :) One unique ammo pouch I recently got was a Luftwaffe bandolier, holds 100 rounds in 20 pouchs down the front. You'd see fallschirmjäger with them. Got it from this company Sarconic, e-sarconic? Anyway, they have cool military items and if you sign up for an account your first order gets free shipping with a code they give you. Best luck and happy shooting!

I would recommend a separate belt as the bandolier is too short to reach a trouser belt. I use a German duty/combat belt with the nice clamp on the front. You never have to dick around with it because it is always the same length you make it. Very nice.

“Kinda like the new California “ I’m not even from Fla, but I know they are no where near like California. Can you not display a advertising sign with the image of a gun in your window pointing out towards the public passing by like in some Ca cities, counties, etc? I doubt it. That’s just a small example of the asinine gun laws in Ca that’s like no where else in this country. Great video. Very interesting.
