That was amazing. The uncut version, just real life honesty. Failing is part of the game, perseverance is key. We all know that, but seeing a top rider go through that process... Very inspiring.

love it! The fear at my age is not so much failing (well it is) but actually failing and breaking some bones. But the whole start small and work up you speak of is absolutely crucial. I just built a small enduro obstacle skills course on my property and at first it really messed with me but now it's actually getting easy. Made a vid on it to. I really like the mic in the helmet as your vid dude does the filming. Really great stuff but my wife says I need to start acting my age. Almost 58 and still riding hard.

I pushed too hard trying to learn and ended up with a broken neck. The fear is real. It's all about acceptable risk given your particular skill level and balancing that with creating situations that make you just uncomfortable to learn and not break yourself. Well, never been good at that.

great video. I really appreciate the fact that you show your limit here. "I want you guys to see my limits". Man, that is more powerful and carries more weight than perfectly hitting everything you try. It really helps lesser riders to realize that we all have limits.... It's about pushing against those limits each time we ride to grow and become better riders. Cheers, well done Rich!

I’ll never forget what you said one time when someone asked how you “crash” so well. You said “because I’ve crashed more than you have tried”. You have a gift for explaining all that is involved in becoming great on a dirt bike. In one of your videos you said something that I had often told people about talent. When you said it I said out loud “yes, exactly!” I’ve spent 40 years playing drums and made my living doing it for a lot of those years. I always chuckled when people said, “man I don’t know how you do that, I tried once and I just couldn’t do anything” I say, “well I couldn’t either when I was 12 and grabbed sticks for the first time!”😂 I don’t believe much in “talent”. Let me clarify. The “talent” someone appears to have is something inside them that makes them WILLING to put the hours and hours and hours of time into any activity to make it look like it came easy. Are there exceptions? Of course but I guarantee there are very few. If you investigate the “exceptions” you will still find hours, days and years of time spent honing a skill.

Perfect!! I also don’t believe in talent! That tends to ruffle a few feathers but in my opinion when people say “he or she is so talented” it ruffles mine!! The term talent takes away from the hard work all the top athletes have put in!

This is a really great video. A glimpse of the struggle it takes to master something is much more inspiring than just seeing successes earned by thousands of hours of challenging practice. Also, you know, there’s a point when there are diminishing returns for training on a given day. Sometimes it’s better to walk away and rest rather than making training scars that are harder to break.

Again, your immersion with what you're doing, your mental focus and strategic thinking regarding the obstacle, AND sharing it with us at the same time, if that isn't the art of teaching I don't know what is. You got 100% of my focus watching this video. I was totally in it with you, my hands are sweating. This is 'fighting with nature', like MMA on rocks! Hhaha!! I hope I'll become at least half as good as you are, some time in my life. I have a KTM EXCF350 which I'm way too whimpy about because it's still new. But hopefully I'll be daring the stuff soon enough. Thanks Rich, you're the best.

This the highest my heart rate has raised watching one of your videos. Love it man! That is one mean rock. It's like a 5' undercut given the downhill run up, can't wait to see you nail it! I could watch an hour of this stuff... no way is this too long. Nice to see your attack-dog self out there 🤘I've dropped my bike laughing in the middle of nowhere by myself after fighting with a rock with everything I have for an hour and for absolutely no reason. Then I come home and fall asleep thinking about how to get it done. When this stuff is in your blood it gets personal 🤣

I started out by just clutching up over speed bumps. Slow down to a few miles an hour, clutch up the front and lean back then lean forward as the rear hits, then maybe back a bit as the rear tire grabs the obstacle. You’ll figure jut out with small stuff first. Clear the front and then let the rear eat the bump. Then you can work up to curbs. Then bigger curbs. Then rocks and logs. And eventually a big concrete pylon and then big ass logs.

I appreciate very much your pedagogy, thanks for all these explanations and demo, it is like you want to help your brother to improve ! And I learn a lot from you since 2 years now approx., from all details you explain and that we would never see even by watching tons of videos....Yes obsession is a key, perseverance. Sometimes I go by an obstacle which was my nightmare 2 years ago, and now I laugh ! Right now I am obsessed by a double big roc, and I try it mentally thousands of time (mental projection is preparation !); one day soon I'll try it in real (with a friend to secure...), and if I suceed (sorry : when I will suceed !) I'll find something more crazy again...No need of Mars like Mr Musk !! Just the nature around me. Thanks so much again, your are great, continue !
