Playing 9 years now. Watching hundreds of vids on YT. Paid for several online courses. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAVE SEEN THIS EXPLAINED. Thank you. I am playing against 4.5 and 5.0 players that push me back all the time. Looks like ball machine day tomorrow!

Tom I’d love to get topspin on high deep balls, but I’ve seen more than one pro say it is hard to do that when hitting a ball above the shoulder. You run out of space for the arm to go up and you have and less strength since it is almost all arm at that point. I prefer to slice when receiving a high ball to my backhand and when a high ball comes deep to my forehand deep I flatten out the ball aiming deep and counting on gravity to bring the ball down when it is traveling that long distance.

Only problem with slice is sometimes it's difficult to bring a high ball down and hit a low skidding slice the ball can FLOAT giving your opponent an opportunity to attack... remember too that the power when "hitting a high ball with topspin".... comes from the legs lifting as you swing up and a fast swinging racquet... racquet head speed... do equal parts of both and you'll hit like a champ! Why do you stress on the windshield wiper after contact? I’m not clear because the ball has gone right? Thanks in advance 🙏🎾
@Fundamentalsoftennis3 жыл бұрын
Yes, the ball is gone, but it gives a good check point to windshield wiper and catch the racquet with your non-dominant hand over your left shoulder assuming you're right handed. To your tennis success, Tom

Great video Tom! I have one question for you which is that when i hit my forehand i'm 95% of the time too close to the ball or i'm too late even if i start my backswing early. I have been working on my forehand for a while now and i can't see it improving at all. What would you recommend me to do? I can not find the solution myself.

You've got to see the ball when it's 3 feet off your opponents strings and turn your shoulders immediately!!!! and start probing with your feet... your feet need to move UNTIL you feel that your spacing between you and the ball is RIGHT... you can practice this playing mini tennis with a practice partner. Are there any downsides to long extended high deep ball rallies? Why does it matter if they're coming to the net?
@Fundamentalsoftennis3 жыл бұрын
Some players will do a SNEAK ATTACK and surprise their opponent who's hitting a high deep ball, and have a good shot at a put away volley. To your tennis success, Tom

@@Fundamentalsoftennis Could lobbing the high ball every time stop sneak attacks? I would have to find a way to defend without passing the baseline.

I have been playing tennis for the last 4 months. I am making nice shots both forehand and backhand, even the slice. Right now, I am using Head Ti 3000, which is a budget racket. Please suggest a Racket I should shift to in order to upgrade my game. Thanks.
