"On Trail Jumps" might not be the best name for this one, but I couldn't think of anything else. Big bro Rob Drew is back with us to try to break down what might be better described as "turning small obstacles into jumps...on the trail ;)
Check out all the behind the scenes action on Instagram! I go deep with the Stories and provide even more insight on the daily!
www.instagram....
Rob Drew Instagram: www.instagram....
Would you like to attend a Ride Series MTB Skills Clinic with Rob and I? Well, check out www.therideser... for the latest schedule of TRS Clinics and be sure to sign up for our newsletter. Or maybe you're looking to come to the MTB Capital of the World for some private coaching/guiding. If so, shoot us a message at info@therideseriesmtb.com
This particular topic is an interesting one. Is it advanced or more basic? Well, our take on it is this: The quicker you understand, and implement, this way of thinking, the sooner you'll be able to smoothen out the trail, carry more speed, be safer, and protect your wheels. Rob has honed this technique over many years of riding the incredibly brutal trails at South Mtn and following him for some of these blistering runs has shown me the ways of the MTB force.
Hopefully this video will give you some insight on the technique Rob and I use to hit those cool little double ups on the trail. Drop some comments to let us know what you think.

1) Big brother is very entertaining. 2) I had a bunch of my local trials dialed for nice little jumps like this. I just moved and hit the new trails for the first time this week. There’s a LOT to learn! These jumps on tight, woody single track makes you feel like a damn star pilot.

I ride in mostly in Las Vegas and SW Utah. Same kind of rocky territory. I always had problems with breaking beads, snake bites, cut sidewalls, etc. Installed Cushcore last month. Problem solved. No more of the dreaded, "DING!" And as a side benefit: a lot less forearm pump and sore hands. I avoided it for a long time because I was listening to the weight wienies, but I'm sold.

Way back in the late 80s I saw this happen, the rider remarked that the air is a lot smoother than the rocks. This had me catching every cheap air. What I learned is how to case the worst scenario. Those 26" rigid bikes had me casing jumps and going OTB. Thanks for the reminder, I'll be thinking of the push not lift movement, that works in the park why not the trail?

For me, it seems counter-intuitive to load into an obstacle that’s not a ramp. My lizard brain thinks hop over it instead of into it. But in the waves of goodness, I could transport you to a pump track and overlay a double and it wouldn’t look edited. Which is totally the beauty of it once the scales are removed from our eyes to see the splendor. This is the way.
