Great insight! Most instructors teach getting out of green side bunkers one way. But the reality is that you need to control distance for various scenarios and have multiple methods with the club face like you said. Nobody ever talked about the sweet spot before and the relationship with how it goes through the sand! Awesome!

My instructor just taught us to get the shaft behind the ball and it ruined my bunker play.I hit 3 out of 12 shots good. It is good to see this PGA Pro with the shaft back ahead of the ball. Thank you Adam, good lesson.

You could do me a great favor, in explaing the effect of ball position when working the ball i.e. hitting a draw in case fade. Harry,Thanks for the kind comments, I'm glad you are finding the videos helpful. There are different schools of thought regards ball position on intentional fades and draws, but I hold to the following. For draws play ball a little further back, for fades a little further forward. The reason is that (for draw) when ball is further back club is likely to be swinging more on inside path. opposite for a fade, where club starts swinging left by the time it reaches the forward ball position. You just have to manage the clubface position.I hope this helps.Best, Adam

If it's any help the two main points were, we hit the sand before the ball in order to get solid contact (front edge of clubface must penetrate sand to get sweet spot of clubface against ball), and #2 the true bottom of (low point) arc is still in front of ball.If there is anything else I can help wit just let me know.Best, Adam

Jim, For a normal lie I'd favor weight slightly on the lead foot, I'd also favor a normal swing plane. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

Hi Adam; Regarding the "hit 2 in. behind the ball" statement, if you're in soft sand & dig your feet in, isn't that putting you below the level of the ball, which if done on the turf would cause a fat shot? Would the same not happen in sand thus eliminating the concern of hitting behind the ball, as it would happen naturally? I'm of course speaking of soft sand.

does this principle apply to hard pack sand as well? Lately i have been playing and the bunker sand has been packed, causing the club to "bounce" and me blading the ball.

Shawn, If the sand is hard it takes more to penetrate it. Some combo of face less open (less bounce, sharper leading edge), and a more descending blow will help you take a divot from firm sand. Hope this helps. Best, Adam

Kevin, The point I’m trying to make is that the golfer (if they are going to be any good) has to develop skill in controlling the club, and how it strikes the sand. The table tennis paddle only serves to demonstrate that this isn’t super difficult. No worries if you didn’t like the video. Best, Adam.
