How To Hit Perfect Tennis Volleys In 3 Steps. In this tennis volley video lesson Top Tennis Training coach Simon Konov will show you how to hit a perfect tennis volley in three simple steps.
The volley is the easiest shot in tennis to learn as it's so simple yet so many players struggle to get it right as they do too much with the racket.
Three steps to the perfect volley:
1. Using the continental grip on both the forehand tennis volley and backhand tennis volley will allow you to save time. Time is of the essence when at the net. The ready position is crucial in hitting good volleys, you want the racket head higher than the grip level
and in the middle of your upper body when in the ready position. Try to create an "L" shape with your racket and hitting arm.
2. Getting the racket ready for contact by placing the racket at the expected contact point. If you have more time you can swing a bit more, if you have less time keep the racket out in front of your body at the contact point.
3. Using the forward momentum to add power to your volleys. If you have time or the ball is wider, try to use the outside foot for the first step and then the inside foot to step through the ball. If you have less time then try to step forwards slightly with the inside foot.

I played tennis for a few years, but I've never taken any class or got trained, I'm always struggling with my timing and position to hit the ball, I found this top tennis training's video one KZbin a few days ago, watched a two videos about how to improve forehand and backhand, I feel like it's exactly teaching how to fix my problems, and I applied into playing tennis with my friend, I can feel the difference, at least now I know what to work on. Anyway, I just want to let you know that I am so appreciate for your teaching and sharing, I will keep watching your videos, thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I play Badminton very competitively and one day decided to pick up tennis since the wind plays less on the ball than badminton birdies on blustery days. Badminton requires more smacking of the birdy since it is only a fraction as fast as a tennis ball, so when I began practicing with my badminton partner I convinced to learn tennis with me, we both struggled and knocked the tennis ball out of the tennis cage constantly, which is why I love this video so much: it clearly highlights that tennis requires more of a blocking tactic rather than a smacking tactic, which makes so much sense why my badminton partner and I were constantly waking the tennis ball far outside of the boundaries.

Excellent video Simon! Volleys are the Achilles heel of my game at the moment and are costing me games because I'm not successfully putting balls away at the net after hitting a good approach shot. It's really frustrating but I have to keep practicing it in match situations. I've been playing for almost 9 years now and have really neglected this part of my game, so much to learn in tennis!

Mine too...but more so in being at the net in doubles. I usually get my racket to the ball but there isn't much power on it. It's just such a different stroke. Fixed arm, bodyweight forward, strong wrist.. It has to be a very different stroke as you just don't have the time to swing!

Another Super tennis training video. Hey Simon I like the idea of the continental grip at the net. I was taught, maybe incorrectly, to hold the racket at the net in the continental and use my other hand on throat to switch to FH or BH eastern for whatever side the ball comes. But I'm gonna try the continental from both sides for my volley and see how it goes.

I did this a few years ago, and it really works although takes time to get used to it. But the way Simon tells it is right, you just don't have time to change grips that close to the net. I know, I tried it! Also, I've been doing what Simon shows here and my volley is way, way better than it used to be. This stuff works!

Right now no lol. The white prototype racket is being modified slightly so I'm waiting on those rackets to come back to me. The old head rackets I used got worn down from too much tennis. The dunlop I currently use is my very old frame from a few years ago, I like the feel with it and the stiffness. The babolat in this video is my spare frame when my strings pop on the dunlop. New prototype's on the way, then I should be using the same frame

It all depends on the player Raj, for some the Eastern would be better, for others the Semi Western. Experiment with both and see which one suits your game more. Thanks for watching. All the best Simon
