A few short years ago I had finally gotten down to scratch. Since then I've played maybe 4or 5 times a year the past 6 years. It sucks to know i once was able to pull off all the shots inside 90 yds and not be able to now. Losing the knowledge and feel for these shots happens way faster than i ever imagined. These videos have been a blessing for me. I don't really care if I'm ever a scratch golfer again but I do want to play well enough that my 6 yr old will listen to me while I'm teaching him to play. He has recently been bitten by the golf bug and the most fun I've ever had playing golf is with that little guy. The best feeling I've ever had playing golf is last week we played 9 holes and somewhere in there he looked at me and said "you're pretty good at this game dad". Anyway, i enjoy your videos because they've helped me to be able to enjoy golf again. 👍

Great description and step by step way to show how to hit that shot. Most people get scared to open that face, also to pull left like a straight pull. Keep up the videos as this was one of the best videos to show how to hit that shot. They don’t realize the open club face, keeping it low and pulling left counteract that open face that usually goes right. 👍👍👍👍

Its rhe best shot man, its super accurate imagine throwing a dart at a dart board...theres a reason pro dart players don't lob their darts at the bullseye...for hugh you have to take in trajectory as well as direction and landing spot, and the roll is inconsistent sometimes it rolls out others it just dies, if you slide underneath the ball goes nowhere if the club face is too close you hit it too far from trying to swing harder (because ur assuming the clubface is open)...only go high if you have to

So I kind of figured this out on my own as a way to control shots that need to stop quick without hitting a high risk flop shot. I heard people talking about hitting spinners so i looked it up and have been doing this on my own for a year. Goes to show you that you need to spend way more time practicing shots inside 100 yards than you do hitting driver and long irons. You learn stuff just from tinkering based on the needs of your game.

If it is coming off that low, with a high lofted wedge like a 60 where you open it even more, is it hitting the ball with the very bottom of the club face? Or even leading edge?
@D.WhiteJr3 жыл бұрын
Ya second groove. Do your research. The steep approach in my opinion is harder for most people because you must be precise. Most Pros like Justin Thomas for example are super shallow coming into the ball and hit more of a draw.. there are a ton of ways to do things with the golf ball just have to play with it a little see what works for you. I recommend for most people to start with a 56 little open face that normally produces the most spin for a low nipper

Do you open your stance when you open the face?
@tastj234 жыл бұрын
Ronald Pickett he normally doesn't open his stance at all and hands always center. The left follow through will counteract and make the ball go straight
@scottlarsen73664 жыл бұрын
The most important element you forgot to mention is a soft covered ball. Hard covered golf balls just bounce off the face, rather than climb up it getting all the spin and coming off low. It's a great shot. A lot easier to get the ball from point A to point B on a straight line too. Great tip and great technique.
@bobbygriz19202 жыл бұрын
You have it backwards actually, because it goes against common sense. Harder golf balls actually spin more.
@scottlarsen73662 жыл бұрын
@@bobbygriz1920 I’ll bet you a nickel that a Pro V1 or similar urethane covered ball the big boys play, will check up, stop on a dime, back up and/or land like a butterfly with sore feet WAY better than any Surlyn covered golf ball. That’s the way it’s always been, from genuine Balata covered balls to today’s Urethane.
@bobbygriz19202 жыл бұрын
@@scottlarsen7366 absolutely I agree, but compression (soft vs hard) and material are 2 individual factors. A harder ball made out of the same material and coating will spin faster than a softer compression version.

@jacobmccain80824 жыл бұрын
@@kennethramsey5957 Its not so much a question of skill but of practice and risk appetite. If I have a 30-35 yard pitch with limited space to land and stop it, I can either hit that shot or try to hit a 40 yard flop which in my experience is WAY harder to pull off than this shot. Just got to keep your hands low and moving left a bit back in your stance with an open club face. Its really not as hard as it seems.
