Yes but them myths came from many a pro on a KZbin channel. Would be helpful if all you pro's stick to a common teaching process. The fact is KZbin golf tuition has become very self opinionated as per golf pro. Just imagine if doctors were like this.

Golf pros do follow these measures facts. KZbin “pro” and none coaches say crazy stuff. It’s just filling up with complete awfulness. I saw a “popular” coach say the complete opposite to these measured facts recently. Shocking and standard for golf pros. Sad really.

Great explanation but surely the changes in hand speed displayed by the better golfers are just a byproduct of them having learned to hit a shot (control the face) with speed, they can't actually be thinking about this whilst playing can they??

True, they are unaware of this in the most. But that can be said about many moves they make. Golfers being more aware of their goals allow them to use these ideas to improve. 👍

This is _the_ most important thing about the swing. Athletic Motion guys had a mindblowing video about this which totally transformed my swing. Basically everything else more of less fall into place if the tempo is good. It's crazy. I've gained about 10 meters of length also with my irons, with basically halving the effort.

This is something I have noticed in my own analysis of good players or anyone who has a lot of power. Those first few frames through transition are very telling, and you'll see the hands and arms turn into a blur early. Nobody good is taking their time with applying speed. Some may feel like the speed comes after the ball, but I think that's more of a clubface control move than anything else.

Sorry Mark but I just can't buy this one. How can the hands slow in relationship to the arms? In order for speed to be created in a swing, something has to stop or at least slow but it can't be the hands. It seems it would have to be the forward lateral move & pressure shift being stopped by the straightening of the front leg allowing the arms & hands to whip thru impact. The release of the wrists & hands is the last addition to speed. Obviously, not being a teaching pro, this is only my interpretation of the swing & I could be totally wrong. My current issue is over rotating which causes me to lose speed rather than gain. I don't know why I subject myself to such a frustrating sport.

This is purely measure data. It's not questionedin golf it is know 👍👍

It’s measuring hand speed. The hands are attached to the arms. The hands are not necessarily moving be Cause of force through the hands. Initial take away the hands move (so do the arms) but that should be from the torso moving not the arms moving with out the body turning. But when the body moves fast the hands attached to the arms attached to the body move fast. You’d have to look at a lot of other data from gears on other parts of the body but this as an isolated data point is very insightful. At least for Me.

Oh. My. God. Mark, you fuckin genius! @9:45, the talk about pushing your hands "backwards" as you start the downswing. This was it! I tried both main points you made in this video, about a faster takeoff/windup in the backswing, and the "throwing" of the hands at the top. I have never felt a better swing in my entire life! And I could feel and hear the speed difference as my club whipped by in front of my feet. I hit a few junk balls into the woods behind my house, and it's confirmed. I NEED TO HIT THE RANGE! I may actually be able to play golf now. Thank you!

Just got back from testing this out at the range. I feel this is probably one of the most transformative lesson ive come across. I still need to practice the timing and feels but even the start is great. I have found feeling like im starting a pause at the top helps the transition. still working out feeling the slower hand speed in the downswing but I think i just need more practice. Thanks Mark!!

I marshaled in the 2014 open at Royal Liverpool. I had an opportunity to watch world class players close to. This together with a huge opening in the hips, as the downswing began, was obvious and they all did it to a greater or lesser extent. There is no question that this is good advice.

The golf swing is akin to a flail, and similar to using a whip. You have to slow down to get the 'crack' at the end.

Mark, There are always exceptions, Ai Miyazato possessed a very slow back swing. At the top of the backswing, the slowest part, there must be time for one set of muscles to relax and an antagonistic set of muscles to start contracting to start the downswing. These muscles start in the feet and travel up the body. Many muscle group are involved hence the difficulty in executing a good strike.

🤔I was under the impression the club head naturally catches up with the hands due to centrifugal force in the downswing ! 🤔

Best thing that’s worked for me, being a tennis player, is timing my swing the same as a first serve. “Ball toss” to top off the backswing, then transitioning at the “trophy pose” and swinging thru at the same intensity as a hard first serve.

I feel like this is why the orange whip is so good. The weight forces you to really get it going on the start of the backswing “catch” it at the top, start the throw really getting the weight going then let it go at the bottom

Very hard to wrap my head around this one - for the average golfer it seems as if stalling and deceleration is much more ruinous in the downswing than accelerating the hands through impact/until the right elbow is straightened.

I love how this makes so much sense physiologically and with the physics of generating speed with the whole body. Thanks for the video Mark!
@justinstephenson9360

At tour level there are exceptions who have relatively slow backswing. The speed of the backswing is essentially down to personal preference and how strong the golfer is - the latter being vital to the change of direction between backswing and downswing. Most tour golfers prefer to see a fast backswing as it "fires" up the body to move fast in the initial stages of the downswing. The reason for slowing the hands as you approach the top of the backswing is simply that the faster the hands are moving at the top of the backswing in the direction of the backswing the more violent the effort needs to be to get that momentum reversed in the downswing. There needs to be a lot of acceleration, and therefore fast hands, in the initial stages of the downswing to get enough angular momentum into the club head.

Marky Mark, my guy! It's like you have been observing my game and releasing videos to help me individually. I had the best range session of my life last night. After tweaking my back earlier in the year and having a few months off, ive had the driver yips. Shooting high 70s low 80s but generally loosing 3 or 4 balls a round. I have a relatively fast ball speed (upper 180s) and this fast take away movement while having a dynamic stance has totally transformed my swing. - i feel like at the top of my back swing now im in the pocket and can swing freely at target with a degree of trust. - most of my issues i think come from slow backswing to fast downswing transition. Face gets open and never recovers. Try to control face = snap hook. - using this with my irons is also helping. Direction is spot on and cancelling out my bad shot which is a flippy hook resulting in missed GIR. Playing tomorrow and can't wait to see if this translates to the course. A HUGE thank you for putting this content out. Playing off 5.5, on my way to scratch. ❤
