@mikemlw The toe pick on figure skates and design of that blade in general makes some of these tricks difficult (e.g. heel stop) but not impossible. Just be careful of course, I wouldn't want you getting hurt after taking my advice.

Those are measurements used that differentiate the "hollow" in your skate blade. On one end, sharpening your skates to a lower measurement like 3/8" means a deeper hollow, allowing a deeper cut in the ice for better turning and acceleration "pumps". One the other end, say a 5/8" or 3/4" cut means a more shallow hollow, allowing for more glide, but lessens your ability to turn. Larger players will use these so not to get bogged down and tired. Also more powerful skaters use a shallow hollow.
