I wanted to let you know that all the novels and plays mentioned are listed in the description box with Amazon links if you need those. I also wanted to add that the novels I select each year are narrowed down by Katie for the final list. I think I it is very helpful for high school students to have some input I what they are learning.

Our Blessed Life this is great. I don’t like just assigning my son books to read, this is a much better approach to give him options

Do you have your daughter write essays for the books on her reading lists or do you just have discussions about them?Or are they just for additional reading since you are using TGAB for literature?
@simplejoyfilledliving5 жыл бұрын
She does a total of 12 essays. 10 are included in TG&TB and she picks 2 of the additional 7 books to write papers on. We only add those extra papers because she’s doing it for honors credit.

College Algebra is generally the same as Pre Calculus so if she's going to dual-enroll math next year, I'd either go with Calculus because it's new and higher, (unless STEM isn't really her goal) or research what majors have College Algebra as their highest needed math and stick with it. Best wishes from MI!
@simplejoyfilledliving5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, we do plan for her to do Calculus next year and dual enroll college algebra her senior year. I know college algebra is lower level than Calculus but she's required to take it anyway unless she opts out with CLEP). I kind of want her taking some math her senior year anyway with the SAT.
@simplejoyfilledliving5 жыл бұрын
Oh, for clarification-only college algebra is offered here for dual enrollment so she will take calculus as a high school class.

I am going back through the Homeschooling Through High School series. I came up with another question 😆 Would you say that how geography is incorporated into TGAB LA levels would constitute as a high school Geography credit? // I’m trying to narrow my choices for 9th grade, and I want to make sure that I’m not shortchanging my daughter!
@simplejoyfilledliving4 жыл бұрын
That is a really good question. The geography is good. There is some cultural geography and a lot of map work. For Katie I would probably add Abeka’s 1/2 credit geography course with the 3 TG&TB regular high school years. Year 4 has changed and will be different than the first 3 years so I’m not sure how much geography it will have.

@@simplejoyfilledliving I am back again! I just rewatched this video, and I have 1 more question. :) How do you choose the topics for the papers that you assign Katie to write for her novels? Choosing the novels and books to read is the easy part for me, but creating writing assignments to go along with the Literature novels and History books is where I am getting bogged down.

I’m loving this series. Our daughter will be a 9th grader this year. We are using tgatb for language arts. What kind of literature would you call it on a transcript? English 1 with ________Literature?
@simplejoyfilledliving4 жыл бұрын
This is what we are doing: Year 1: General Literature, Year 2: American Literature, Year 3: British Literature. Because they abandoned the original plans for Year 4, we are considering dual enrollment her senior year.

I have a 3 and 5 year old boy we are looking to home school. Your videos have been so helpful! Thank you for being so honest and good! Maybe you posted some recommendations already, but do you have any 'learning to read' material or curriculum you really like?
@simplejoyfilledliving5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! My youngest is in first grade. She has special needs and I feel like we have tried everything for reading. What I have liked best is Foundations Phonics by Masterbooks. Here's a video I did recently on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWrMe5lqhNKKfdk

I prefer students driven but not looked at teacher driven. I see vouabarry in the good and the beautiful language arts in elementary. Sorry I can’t spell. We also look at vocabulary in other subjects. I’m looking at a world geography and love the idea of them doing it early. We already piece the curriculums together.

Hello, I just found your channel and Ive been thinking about home schooling my kids for a while. Im curious to know how are grades reported or how do you prove to the state that they have completed a certain amount of work?
@simplejoyfilledliving4 жыл бұрын
Great question! It varies by state. You need to look up your state’s homeschool law to find out what record keeping that you need to do.

This video (#6 in this series) that went up today goes into a good bit of detail on specific curriculum as well as what I would do differently. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJjYeqp8ndaca5Y We used several of the John Hudson Tiner books as well as Apologia Physical Science for science and The Mystery of History.
