One tip I have for young only children is to create other "students" for them. So we use stuffed animals as the other students who we give names to and different voices for. We take turns pretending to be them and I usually make them know all the answers if I "call on" them while she thinks it's fun for them to not know the answers (I think to make herself feel smarter, lol)... so we definitely get creative with it. She's 5 so it works for that age. I think as she gets older I'm definitely going to have to make sure she is around other kids in some type of learning environment.

I am a single mom to an only child. He’s turning 1 soon, and I’m planning to homeschool him. Thank you so much for these videos.🙏🏽

Its so hard to be everything to my child. So many roles to be to an only child. Yes, homeschooling an only is different.

Yes, it is! All of the roles.... But, the relationship aspect is definitely worth it!

This was so helpful. I homeschool our youngest (11) only bc of an age gap and the other 2 teenagers (17,18) have transitioned to public & private school (all kids are different!). This video gave me a much needed re-evaluation. I’ll check out your other videos for sure. It may be challenging to find another only mom…but great advice!

Morning basket wasn’t a go for us too! Being intentional with creating situations that include teamwork and problem solving is key. That’s a great point!

Love this video! So hard to find videos on only child. I have an only child. We are entering our third year of homeschooling. Morning basket didn’t work for us. We read books aloud together.

We struggle with motivation too. Sometimes you need a little friendly competition.

@@HomeschoolwithJen we’re on year 4 of homeschooling. I sometimes wish he had siblings to partake in certain subjects/activities with him, but I’m also very glad that I can dedicated all of my time to being a one-on-one teacher for him🙂

I am starting this journey with my 16, almost 17 year old that has been in public school until 8th grade and then in a private school that worked with paces. I haven't a clue what level my son is at because the public school kept moving him from one grade to the next with little regard to skill/understanding of the subject. I have no idea where to begin because the private school said he was anywhere between 4th - 8th grade level two years later!?! Help!

Do you have any advice for teaching independence? I’ve seen do many videos but they are tailored for more than one kid. I did try last year in the 4th grade, but that went south quickly. He gets so distracted if I can’t reel him in. 😂 Help?
