Rob! Mate! This video is a career changer! Unhooked & hooked up my first set of trailers the other night in a lighting storm in Melb and had this vid guiding me the whole way through… shame they don’t teach this part as thoroughly in the HC license courses. I left my course feeling lost re coupling trailers but then found your video mate and boy did it help the other night! Keep pushing this content out mate! Us young blokes in the industry starting out need em!

How do you know if turntable is fixed or ballrace?

He didn't once mention that some trailer's have a manual height control valve for the airbags.... Which can be used to raise or lower the trailer or truck when hooking up a trailer

I didn’t mention height adjustable airbags on European trucks either. There are a lot of variables. When I get the time I’ll do a much more involved video covering all of that using a full double.

G’day Benny, would you be American by chance? Unlike American Glad Hands, Australian truck/trailer air fittings are quick connect male and female couplings. Once you’ve coupled the fittings there is a safety collar that locks the fitting so it can’t be accidentally released.

@@freesbrisbane i agree ,you must take control of the brakes as soon as possible in case the trailers slack adjusters are worn and she tries to run away from you.

@kellyboon4918 you are 100% correct. If the slack adjusters are worn the trailer will start moving back whilst trying to couple, maybe slip off the turntable and while minimal damage will occur (because your legs are only 2 inch off the ground) you’ll end up with stretched (possibly) and grease covered Suzi coils as they drape over the turntable. The rules are PLL (pin, legs, lines) when coupling and LLP (legs, lines, pin) when uncoupling. Everything else is totally correct, including crawling under the trailer to check that the jaws (Holland Hitch) or safety bar (Jost) are behind the pin.
