The route he (started) on from the Westgate, inbound, is a truck route for overheight or placarded trucks to avoid the tunnels, and is used by many trucks and can be very busy. There is nowhere to safely park without being in the flow of traffic, so to assess a possible route if you are unfamiliar with the area. He has gotten into the right lane thinking he was turning right, but turned 100 metres (the length of the bridge he should have driven over) before his correct turn. It's easy to end up in the wrong lane there if you don't know it. That said there is no way, no excuse for why/how he should have tried to go under the rail overpass being 2ft lower than his truck. And clearly speed was an issue, cos he got a fair way through before coming to a stop. Accidentally ending up on that street is understandable, but not lowering a B double 2 feet!

@@rodneyflying9124 Maybe. There’s no restriction based on the pacemaker, it purely comes down to having an Ejection Fraction (EF) of over 40%. No doctor can guarantee anybody won’t drop dead at any point, so theoretically because I’m so strictly monitored I’m probably less of a risk than someone “healthy” who’s blissfully unaware.

@@freesbrisbane I hear you mate. I was told that unless I got the jab, the company wouldn't load me and I also managed to stay in one state which made things a little easier. Through some good connections, I managed to get an exemption as I flat out refused to get it under any circumstances. I know for a fact that if I have had it, I would have ended up a statistic. I was prepared to sell everything up and get out of the game if the exemption didn't come through. I'm just glad that you're on the mend.

Well done and well explained. Good on you for encouraging others to listen to their bodies. 20 years ago, I was asleep in the truck and woke at 2am. I had this horrible feeling something was wrong, no pain or symptoms, just this feeling. I turned the truck around and drove back to the depot and told my boss I was off to the doctor. My boss knew me well enough to know something was wrong and he supported me. Long story short, I had a cancer on my left kidney. Had I ignored my body telling me to act I would not have been around to watch my kids grow up. I was bloody lucky. Rob, you are right, listen to your body and act quickly if you think something is not right and get the checkups done that are needed as you age.

Fantastic to hear your on the mend ROB, I had an attack in Ipswich hospital back in 2018 and eventually ended up at the PA for an angiogram and a stent in my coronary descending artery that was 90% clogged , my Dr was shocked as my cholesterol had always been within range. The stent totally changed my life, I’m built much like you physically so it was a shock also. Had several cardiologists but then after a 000 trip back to IGH for a medication issue the cardiologist actually listened to what I thought was the reason for the problem and went away and did his own research like I had and came back and agreed and changed the medication to the lowest dosage. He has been my personal cardiologist since 2018. Specialists rarely if ever listen to the patient as to the cause but he really impressed me. Take care ROB we all care about you and love your trucking stories.❤

I used to be employed as an interstate freight train driver here in Brisbane and had a turn at work back in 2017. My main left artery was 95% blocked, they call it the Widow Maker and I had a stent fitted but had a heart attack in the Hospital during the operation. Retired now but I had to do the stress tests every year to keep my job. Incidentally, I had the jabs during Covid to stay compliant when crossing the border, but my doctor strongly advised not to have any more boosters due to the possibility of Myocardia. My Mum's got a pacemaker and she is going strong. Hope you are on the improve too. Stay safe out there.👍

Basically as you said he should have taken notice of the height sign, especially if off route. Now to roll a truck with stock on it you have to take into account the fact that you have a load behind you that can move in the vehicle, so if your going a bit too fast into a corner and those stock get thrown off balance and move you will very likely ch age the centre of gravity of the trailer/s and over it goes .

There is signage for Trucks to turn LEFT over the Swan Street Bridge, over the Yarra River and onto the Monash Fwy or up Swan Street. Alexandra Avenue only gets narrower past the Railway Bridge he hit. At worse any Truck needs to get off that Road at the next intersection with Chapel Street. Was he checked for 'meds' . 😢

Sign on Swan St Bridge also says no trucks over 4.1 ahead. Meaning your only option there is to turn right and get back on the freeway. If you continue East along Swan St. you have 2 bridges to contend with and no option to turn right to head South on Punt Rd to get back to the freeway. Old mates best option if he was familiar with Melbourne would of been to go down Beach Rd, then North rd back to the freeway which used to be and maybe still is the O.D route
