I always wondered if you could feed the chains through the attachment point and hook them back onto themselves if they were too low to the ground. I like that better than twisting them. Thanks for the tip!

You use a padlock and put it though the chains so it can’t be removed from the vehicle, also padlock on the back of the trailer opening

What about when it's full? I imagine a jack of some sort will be necessary. And is the 6x12 easy to lift as well?

Many trailers have a way to be locked to your vehicle with a lock sold on the shelf at your local U-haul Hitch center #2847DAT. Or with a bike lock like this one, www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Bike-Rack-Accessories/6ft-(1-8m)-Long-x-5-16in-(8mm)-Diameter-Python-Adjustable-Locking-Cable/?id=17310 , also sold off the shelf. You can use the handle Aaron is lifting the trailer up with to lock the trailer to the safety chain eyes on your vehicles hitch for the evening and remove before you begin towing again!

I am concered about the security of the trailer. Do people disconnect the trailer and steal it? What to do to prevent? I will be going coast to coast and dont want to loose my stuff. Also, what if they break the lock in the back?

The various trailers available for rent can use different styles of tongue and therefore will use different types of locks. Your local U-Haul center has several locks that can be purchased to lock the trailer to the vehicle, as well as padlocks to secure the cargo door.

I rented this trailer today and will be doing a 5hr trip one way so a total of 10hrs round trip mostly freeway. The trailer says maximum speed 55mph. Is that true? If I can’t exceed 55mph on the freeway with the trailer then this trip will probably take me 15 hours. Is that really the maximum safe speed with this trailer?

You could...but you're stupidly putting others at risk as well as whatever your hauling. Buy the bigger size and do it properly would be my suggestion

Pretty sure it depends on what size uhaul you get. I believe that info is on the uhaul website tho. I was thinking about renting one for some furniture and it had a lot of handy info there

Its unlikely you can manually lift a loaded trailer since 10% of the weight in the trailer will be added to the tongue. It is advised to Hook the trailer up to the towing vehicle prior to loading, Which your U-Haul representative will do and document when Renting the trailer.
