How to Hookset From a Kayak - Kayak Bass Fishing

this is a good one! no joke it took me forever to get the kayak hookset down. this video covers it well. took me two seasons of yak fishing before i wasnt missing half my bites. With the frog hookset i started holding my rod at around 90 degrees to the line and when i get a blowup i turn and point the rod tip at where the fish hit my frog, then wait for my line to tighten up as the fish swims off with it. puts me in a good position to set and also ive gotten alot less frogs hitting me in the chest and face if the fish just hit and didnt eat it lol

One of my big things, is that I went back to fishing with mono instead of braid/flour in my kayak, when I’m fishing smaller bass ponds, 3lb and under. Having the rod power, getting side mouth hooks, the braid is too unforgiving on small fish, and rips right out, especially in a kayak with those lower hook sets. Went back to mono, no issues

I carry 5 rods, want to make it 6 but when I try that that rod seems to get in my way casting. My question is what kind of setup do you have for each rod and what you fish (lure) with that setup. Also of the setup's which one or maybe two is your damn nothing I got tied on is working so lets try this lure......?

@@wendellfishing GREAT, look forward to it. I spent many years fishing from a bass boat, the lake I fish (have a home there) has lots of docks. When casting under them from a boat the angle and everything is way different, I'm guilty of looking here and not realizing I'm casting there because it's more side arm then underhand. I also struggle not to hit the foot peddle, standing up is not an option, at 60 just don't feel comfortable doing that for long period of time in a kayak. Take care.
