I've just bought this pattern and cannot wait to get started! Then I looked at the mass amounts of paper instructions and pattern layouts and nearly cried 😂. I can't thank you enough for doing this video as a follow along 😍

Your dress is gorgeous!! As someone who has been traumatised (only a slight exageration) by the enormous amounts of ease in big 4 patterns, the tips you give in this video to determine the best size for you are invaluable. Thank you!!

I'm making this dress for me to wear on my daughters wedding day. Im going to use satin fabric with a lace overlay. I also have to add length to my bodice since I have a long torso. I'll probably add about 2 1/2 inches. I'm gong to attemp to make this a full length dress. Yours is gorgeous. I hope mine turns out just as beautiful. Wish me luck. Greta

Thanks for your tips; I am making this dress for a wedding and want it to be perfect. I am short and need to shorten the skirt (even from the short length about 4.5 inches and the shorten line. Any tips for reconnecting the side slope of the pattern pieces?
@KittenishBehaviourSian Жыл бұрын
You want it to be as smooth as possible, try and make it look like the original line :)

Up until now I have cut the same size for bust, waist, and hip measurements. I have experience with actually constructing the garments, but I’m finally focusing more on garments fitting my own body better. If you cut the bodice in a bust 14 and waist 10, does that mean that you are blending between the respective cut lines from bust to waist? I hope that makes sense. That way the bodice and waist seams still match up.
@KittenishBehaviourSian2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. smoothly grade/blend between the 2 sizes 😊

Your instructions are really helpful - I am about to make this dress - I will have to use mixed sizes for top and skirt. When grading the patterns so the top is the same measurement where it is attached to the skirt... do you suggest grading the top to match the selected skirt or grade the skirt to match the selected top?
@KittenishBehaviourSian Жыл бұрын
You want to blend the lines between the 2 sizes you need, I would say for this dress go for the correct bust size and blend in to the waist/hips

Adore your videos! I haven't sewn in years but I'm wanting to purchase used clothing or make my own for sustainability purposes. What would you suggest is the best way to learn how to sew your own clothing- classes/videos? Thank you! :)

Please can I ask approx how much cotton lawn you purchased for the bodice. It looked like you used regular lining for the skirt so I am trying to work out how much of each I would need. Thank you!

Lovely dress and such a clear, helpful video. I have always just cut out the pattern pieces for a garment in the past, never actually traced them....so this sounds like a good idea. Can I ask what paper you use for the tracing.... it doesn't look like tracing paper... and where you source it? Many thanks!
@KittenishBehaviourSian2 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊. I get the tracing paper from Morplan www.morplan.com/gb_en/plain-tracing-paper

I really want to have a go at this dress and have bought some calico for a toile. Please can you tell me what type of fabric you used to make your dress as it seems to hang really nicely. I’m not great with names of the different types and would like to search. Is it a linen blend?
@KittenishBehaviourSian2 жыл бұрын
I made this dress with a viscose challis fabric (can also be called rayon challis) I interlined the bodice with cotton lawn for a little more structure and I lined the whole thing with a viscose/acetate blend as it's slippery. I hope that helps.

Love the dress, fabric is beautiful....I made this dress....I lined my skirt and used white eyelet fabric.....the dress became very heavy, but I still love it....I have been sewing for years and never once have I traced a pattern, I just use the pattern itself....I have used patterns repeatedly and have never had one wear out from use.....I find it interesting that people do this, when I learned to sew from my mom when I was 8 years old, sewers did not trace patterns.....we just cut them out and used them.....
@KittenishBehaviourSian4 жыл бұрын
The only reason I trace is that I never used to and I've gone up in size and the patterns I cut are now way too small for me. Also I don't like altering the tissue paper because I find it really delicate and sometimes my alterations don't work the way I want them to so I like having the original to go back to. It's something I've got in to the habit of doing now 😊. That's the lovely thing about sewing; there is no "right" way just the way that works for you 😊

What is the best way to determine if you need to lengthen your pattern (in this case, the bodice)?
@KittenishBehaviourSian2 жыл бұрын
I measure from the base of my neck to my waist once I have that I measure the bodice back minus seam allowance and compare to your own measurements. (you will want to pick a bodice that has a high back that is meant to sit at the base of your neck) Definitely make a mock up to check the fit on a new to you pattern/pattern designer. McCalls, Vogue, and Butterick I have to add an inch. Other designers are different. Hope that helps.
