HOW TO/HOW NOT TO CHANGE A FLAT!

When riding BMX learning to work on your bike is an absolute must so today we decided to do a video on fixing a flat tire something that happens all the time in the BMX world. For this video we decided to go two different ways we have BK a mechanic at my bike shop show you guys how a professional change the flat tire and we also have big boy who is not by any means a professional mechanic show you how he changes the flat tire! We figured that this way we can show you all what to do and what not to do when changing your flat tire! BK can change a flat in world record time big boy on the other hand Big Boy can manage to get a flat in world record time! In this video the guys take their own tools and show you exactly what they use them for and in big boy's case even the Oreos and the helmet!

O Herk you can just use your hands to pry it off that's how I've always done it. Avoid anything metal because you can damage your rim.

If you're ever in a jam if you're big boy or someone else. Obviously using Tools isn't ideal for getting a tire off. But if you happen to have a small Or medium size crestent wrench You can use the closed side to Get the tire off a bit saver than A sharped tool. As well You can use the wrenching End if you have some pressure You need to let out. You Can press the valve as you Would with the bottom side of A tire lever. Of course levers Are the best thing since that's They're job but we are humans And forget things. So that is A better way to get it off you Have more control over the Wrench being closed and Having the circle at the bottom And you can pry it without Having to worry as much. It still can damage the tube Or tire if you go to hard and fast. B Ut if you are gentile it's a good Cheat code for a moment's notice. Since it's not sharp and pointy...

bk doesn't try he probably tries with 15% of what he has and goes at his own pace big boy doesn't focus maybe A.D.D. but loses track and then feels pressured then resulting him to rush his way to complete the task he is doing as fast as he can because he gets anxious. BK's methods are great, except the whole "tighten until it's almost fucked" mentality. Besides the risk of stripping the thread, over-tensioning nuts and bolts and cause them to fail without warning, it can also wear or deform the thread which can have long-term negative effects. Use chain tensioners to hold the wheel straight and just snug those nuts up with a medium grunt, or use a torque wrench and measure it. BMX axles are considerably more forgiving than other bikes, but as components keep getting lighter, they usually become more delicate too, so watch out for that too.

Damaged frames come to mind. Over tightening something can result in failure even more so than wheels falling off like you mentioned. Wheels only fall if you're a total rookie and don't tighten them on at all, but a safe amount of torque and regular checking is enough to keep it working fine for years. Use a torque wrench if you really want to, or better yet, use chain tensioners.

Great job BK. You are pro bro. Keep workin' Chaz you'll get this. :) To: Scotty and crew. I crashed my BMX last Sunday right before the Superbowl. During the crash I hit my head on the pavement really hard. I skinned the side of my face around my right eye and my head hurt really bad when I got up. It was like someone was shaking my head really hard and fast. I had blurry vision for 10-15 seconds. Since the crash I have developed a black eye and bruised right side of my face. I can't thank you guys and Bikeman4u enough for leading by example and wearing your helmets. I always remember Bikeman's quote "Safety takes no holiday". I am so glad I was wearing my helmet when I crashed. I almost didn't put it on for some stupid reason, but thank goodness I did. I suffered a mild concussion which would have been a lot worse if I hadn't been wearing it. Guys thank you so much :( . You all are by far the greatest role models for us all. I used to think helmets were stupid looking. So I put cool stickers on it to make it cool. LOL. Hope you are enjoying the road pendants I sent. Take care guys... Jason S with the CRX :)

I haven't changed a tire in more than 10 years but I remember using a flat head screwdriver (and it was not effecient). I just started riding again and I need to change my tire. The damn tube won't maintain a 65+ psi, and keeps instantly falling to 60~ . -Do I need to replace the tube for an instant fix?

Using the flathead :P we've all done it, we've all regretted it at some point. Do you know these Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres (not for BMX, just commuter type) ? They're marketed as "unflattable". And I only ever had a flat tyre with these: the first time I put them on ... These f ckers are so tight, I couldn't get them on the rim. I was pulling and pulling, and my tyre lever broke off. Snapped right in two. So I decided to "flathead it out" ... Ended up with a tyre that wouldn't inflate, of course. :P

what causes tires to explode? I was riding one day and everything was fine. went home, go to get my bike the next day and the tire had exploded. it tore the rubber sidewall and everything. so I bought a new tire and a new tube. I checked the rim for loose spokes and sharp objects, I start pumping the new tire up with a hand pump , I get it to about 60 psi and then BOOM! it explodes again. makes my ears ring and everything. what causes this to happen?

TIP: Use a 99 cent black plastic paint scraper from home depot. Use the handle side get it soapy. U will never scrape a rim or pinch a tube again if your careful. I've used them for years building bikes
