Thanks for the video! I'm running a 1TB HDD in my 4 year old HP Envy 17T-J100. I'm wondering if I can buy a 1TB Samsung 860 (latest drive), install it in the 2nd bay, do the data migration that Samsung provides, change the boot sequence to look at the SSD drive, and be done. Does that sound right?
@vincentturtle21166 жыл бұрын
Sounds about right, but you'll need a second HDD cable if you don't already have one!

what possessed HP to make the hp notebook envy 17-u011nr so you must split the case to get to the battery or anything else? love the machine, but who needs the extra grief?

Hi, thanks for a video. Question regarding HDD on your laptop(mine is same) ; is it possible to put extra SSD instead of HDD ? (to have two SSD) or HDD bay is not sized for SSD. Thanks and regards,
@drewzytran7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This video helped alot. I'm just wondering what that cable you connected the Samsung SSD to the hard drive port is called. My SSD only came with a usb adapter & cable for a desktop tower not small wire/cable like yours. Thanks
@vincentturtle21167 жыл бұрын
+drewzytran It is a type of SATA cable. They vary in shape and length depending on the computer. For desktops you don't have to worry as much. You'd just need to connect SATA and power cables to it. Definitely check with the guide that came with your SSD to be sure.

Hola pude instalarlo, pero el sistema operativo no lo reconoce como segundo disco.. que puedo hacer?
@Fl1pmo4 жыл бұрын
Es posible que no lo hayas enchufado correctamente, que el disco duro esté defectuoso o que no lo hayas configurado correctamente en el menú de arranque (podría estar desactivado). Has intentado utilizar Google para solucionar el problema?

Great video. Quick and straight to the point. I've been looking up ways to improve my Envy 17's performance so that I don't have to buy a new laptop. I just have a few questions: 1. Does having an SSD only improve boot time and opening programs? Does it have much of an impact on a program's performance? I've been playing games on my Envy so I was wondering if they'd run smoother on an SSD. 2. Would it matter if I keep my OS on the original HDD and my games on the SSD? Thanks!
@vincentturtle21166 жыл бұрын
I don't think switching to an SSD will help you run games much smoother--or at least it probably wont be too noticeable. Typically the bottlenecks for gaming are GPU/CPU/RAM. I would definitely recommend putting the OS on the SSD if you are after a performance boost. You will not see any difference in boot times and such if you leave the OS on a rotating disc HDD.

Hello +RepensTheTurtle. First of all, thank you --- your video was exactly what I was looking for. Anyway, I've decided to get an HP Envy 17.3 with a 1 TB HDD, 16 GB of RAM, and a 1.8 GHz 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8550U Processor. It should be pretty damn fast with those specs as is, but I thought that I would treat myself to a SSD upgrade a little down the road, essentially ensuring that I'll never need to buy another laptop. You made the physical installation look pretty easy, but how much is involved for a relative layman re partitioning the system, i.e. formatting and installing the SSD, changing the boot priority so that the OS boots up on the SSD, and setting it up so that MS Office applications open on the new drive? And finally, are there any other apps or things in general that you suggest be prioritized on the new SSD? Should I store anything on it, or just use the 1 TB HDD as the warehouse for my photos, music, video, etc? Thanks again.

BEWARE: I recently purchased HP Envy 17 m7 u109dx; specifications list compatibility with m.2 and ability to have m.2 SSD along with a 2.5" drive simultaneously. But this is not necessarily true if the m.2 SSD is not included by the manufacturer. In my case and others, the motherboard has a place for the m.2 socket, but it is not physically present. It is not soldered on. I will now have to return the m.2 I purchased and instead of adding an SSD, I'll be replacing an HDD with a 2.5" SDD. Very disappointing. Bad practice by HP and misleading/incorrect specifications lists. Great video, by the way. It helped me get into the laptop very easily.

Great video, mine has the 2 x 1tb HDD in there also, same computer. 85mb/sec is pretty slow. Did the software which came with the drive copy acrosss the OS to the SSD, how did you do it? I was thinking as I've got about 210gb on my 1tb drive, just cloning it to a 256gb SSD such as yours
@vincentturtle21167 жыл бұрын
+Nick Peters I don't know the exact numbers, but when I switched to SSD there was a noticible boost in speed. Yes, the software provided by Samsung with the SSD has the migration tools you need. 210gb on a 256gb SSD sounds a bit high to me; I'd recommend looking to see if a larger drive is more appropriate/feasible

I ordered the computer configured with 512 SSD. So will there be a bay to add an additional SATA for storage? I asked HP but got conflicting answers. One guy said if I had a DVD bay (which I will) then there will not be available space. The online chat guy said there is a spot but I will have to get a cable and bracket. Can you shed any light on this?
@vincentturtle21167 жыл бұрын
+Sharon Raizor What is the model number of your PC? I'd say your best bet is to just pop off the access panel and look inside. Mine had two hard drive bays and a DVD player, but since I had it configured with only one hard drive, the second bay had a metal blank in it and I had to order the extra cable.

I am about to find out the deal. It is being delivered today. I just hope they haven't stayed with the back that has 22 screws to be removed. I just found anew video from HP discussing the new Summer 2017 Envy models. They state that the 17t has two drive bays available. Keeping my fingers crossed.

+Sharon Raizor Hope it comes as you expect! My laptop (the one in the video) is a bit of an older model, so I'm not sure how much they've changed. Best of luck!
