I want to move years of photos and then delete from iPhone. Can I follow the same process?
@patrickmcguire79293 ай бұрын
Want to do the same with Voice Memos from iPhone SE 3rd gen. (2 year old phone) to external hard drives (1 year or 1.5 old) iCloud destroyed 7756 titles (iMac 2 year old Big Sur 11.7.10 won't go further) iOS is 17.2. incompatible was the supposition. 🤬Spent 6 years flailing with merely organizing aprox. 20 thousand Voice Memos now. Used to use iTunes to organize. Apple reps have ZERO Voice Memo knowledge. Unlikely to get a response, or know IF I do.🤷🏻♂ Apple rep today said; (1 of 4 wasted 2.5 hours of my day) par for this plight, "USB A - lightning will do". Other said USB C, can NOT find ANY answers from Apple now for 6 years. Air dropping takes a REALLY long time with that many 20K aprox. iCloud SUCKS. And my USB ports have NEVER worked to import ANY of my 6 iPhones thru the years via my iMac, NO MATTER New or older device. Skips WIDE swaths of hundreds or thousands of photos & wants to import what was ALREADY on Mac/hard drive. Same issues - Voice Memos. Their /feedback is useless. I feel as though I'm in a Twilight Zone episode- old reference from 1960's.

This is a helpful video with a warning. Do not use these Sandisk drives. You might be ok if you have an older version 1 drive, but the new version 2 drives have a high failure rate. There are plenty of KZbin videos to back me up on this. I have experienced the pain of this personally. Luckily, I never back up to just one place.
@spillthegoods9 ай бұрын
You are absolutely correct on this! Redundancy when it comes to your Photos/footage is super important. I try to save my Videos and Photos in at least two places (iCloud & a storage device) that way if one fails I have a backup. @MarkHardstaff-pj1fo 4k footage is what I frequently need to send over. This is particularly difficult because I work as a performer on Cruise Ships and internet is nonexistent. Apart from that it’s so infuriating that they took this long to give a solution to Apple and PC users. Apple went out of their way to make things as difficult as possible for file transfer and I’m just glad that’s over.

Tip when using this drive are you must turn your phone or iPad off before disconnecting drive, if ssd drive doesn’t appear in files, you must hook it to a computer open file then shut file, then try with iPhone again should appear in files, these work with iPad iPhones but you have to follow these rules and it probably won’t hunt to wait a minute or two before starting to disconnect

This is an excellent video. Let me add something: The reason why you go to "files" app first is that by selecting the SSD, then when you go to photos to "save to files" it remembers the SSD you chose and goes there when downloading files. I may be wrong on this, and will stand corrected if so. Also, to save another step, and go directly form phone to SSD and not to even bother with downloading: iPhone 15 Pro. To record video directly to an external drive using an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, plug in the drive and switch to ProRes. You will see it now says USB C by the USB C port which means any video will be recorded onto the drive. You can also use a 3rd party app such as the Blackmagic app. (I typed in "search box" "where is pro res on iPhone" and it took me there. Once in camera app, in video "pro res" will be on upper left of phone screen. Click on that and camera will record to USB-C.) Thanks so much for the video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmLNp5qgbKiah6M

I have a Iphone 14 Pro Max. Wanting to free up space for an upcoming trip to Kenya. Do the photos get transferred across and then go off the phone? As in - not just copied across?
@spillthegoods9 ай бұрын
Great question, with this process they are just copied across. You would then need to go into your device and delete from there. I will mention, as with any storage device it is important to have some redundancy. Meaning you don't want to have all your files saved in ONE location in case there is some kind of failure with your storage device. This can happen and that is a big bummer when you lose footage/photos that you wanted to keep.
