This video was an absolute LIFE SAVER!!! I have been trying to solve this problem for YEARS, and have put it off again and again because, first, I couldn't be sure that I had the right replacement battery and because NO ONE described and illustrated exactly how to do it... YOU DID. I have the exact model laptop. And it WORKS!!! Quick comment for others: the "Star" screwdriver included with my battery was too small and didn't engage the screws. I used a perfect sized tiny flat head [gently] and it worked fine. Also... my old battery looked swollen just as yours did. I finished the repair 20 minutes ago and the new [$40 vs $100 HP] battery was at 80% and is now 100%!!! I haven't seen that in a long, long time. Of course, I have subscribed. THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!!!

Thanks so much! My battery isn't that bad yet, still holds a pretty good charge. I bought this laptop last year brand new and t's the first one I bought that the battery doesn't just come out? So I was wondering what I'm going to do in a couple years when the battery is really bad. Finding this video was great and thank you so much for uploading it! The bottom looks the same as mine. I miss the days when you could just buy a new battery and pop it in! Or buy an extended battery and put it in and get more juice than the original.

Additional note: replacing the battery also fixed the unresponsive touch pad. For a few weeks before replacing the battery, touch pad had been very annoying. Especially the right side, including the right click, was not functioning properly. Now replacing the bulged up old battery, it kind of made sense. The bulging must have been affecting the touch pad from within, kinda like human body!! So if someone out there has been experiencing the same problems with touch pads, replacing the battery might be one of solutions.

Great videos! Followed your steps and successfully installed a replacement battery on my HP Envy 17 laptop. The original had three bulges (!) when I got to it. The replacement came from China, via Amazon, and came with the two required screw drivers. ($40 vs, HP's $171! I used a small eyeglass repair screw driver for the "pry bar,") Also, no problem with the replacement mounting screw hole alignments. The computer started right up after a 30 min wait for charging and there were no BIOS hopes to jump thru. Based on the locations and types of mounting screws used by HP, I conclude that they'd prefer you buy a new laptop than change the old one's battery ;>)

For anyone that is interested, I have the HP Envy Notebook that was purchased in 2017. After a system warning to replace the battery, I purchased the SG03XL 849048-421 Replacement Battery for $35 on Amazon. I completed the full battery replacement procedure in about 25 minutes. I've had my battery replaced in my 17t-u100 under extended warranty once already because it was bulging and the touchpad buttons weren't working, and I am having to replace it again because it's bulging again after less than a year after extended warranty replacement. I am doing it myself this time since it's out of warranty; I haven't received or installed the replacement yet, but the process wasn't too bad to take the bottom out other than the screws under the rubber pad were slightly stripped possibly from whomever serviced it the last time I sent it in. The battery is removed at the time, I took the opportunity to clone/swap the HDD for a SSD and is the same notebook I am writing this comment on now. The 17t-u100 is a fine notebook it's just the battery/supplier that it and similar models use is junk. I'll update how the replacement goes.
@joshuafinch19763 жыл бұрын
Installation went well the first time, powered it up, and booted fine. It had about a 60% charge already. I powered it down, put all the bottom panel screws back in, and it wouldn't boot afterwards. The monitor powered on but it was blank, no HP logo or anything, unable to access UEFI setup. I had to remove all the bottom panel screws again and remove the battery as well and turn it on plugged into AC without the battery and it booted up to startup repair. The machine was running just for some reason Windows couldn't boot or get any display. Reinstalled the battery again, boots fine right now. The instructions my battery came with say to run it down to 3% then recharge it to 100%. Everything is put together minus the screws to the bottom panel right now. I didn't have an issue with the battery screws fitting. I can build/repair/upgrade/etc desktops with ease but notebooks I normally don't do well because of the very small connectors that are easily damaged.
@Snipeoff3 жыл бұрын
I can understand the connectors thing, I wonder why the screws in the bottom seem to mess it up? 🤔
@joshuafinch19763 жыл бұрын
@@Snipeoff I put all the screws in and it seems to be working fine now. Well, all except one of the long screws in the back. It won't screw in, it just spins and it will come out only partially but can't be removed. It's not in the threads but even with pliers the damn thing won't come out at least not without damaging the bottom panel. Pics of old battery: imgur.com/a/AkQf4pD
@Snipeoff3 жыл бұрын
Well that's good news that you can at least put some in, hmmm, if you can get the screw out, maybe try a thin blade lifting underneath the head from the bottom and spin it at the same time. Then try just the tiniest amount of thread locker just to hold it in place.
