Event walk-around: 0:00 Bootleg spotting starts from 17:50

Many of the Genshin ones don't have genuine scale figures yet, which is for me the easiest tell (if there were Star Rail ones this would apply to). The other is that the eyes and mouth of the bootleg figures often feel like not what the character would pose as.

Thank you for the video! It is always fun to attend these conventions virtually. Unlike some of the conventions I have been to, this venue looks very spacious and clean. Lots of Rem and Miku figures, as expected. Some Genshin Impact, Fate, and Hololive figures too. I noticed several cosplayers of the latter as well. What would you say are the most popular IPs at the moment? It is interesting to see how bootlegs are mixed in with genuine products at these events. It is great to hear your thought process when it comes to spotting bootlegs, as many of them look alright from afar, and it is easy for newcomers to miss the telltale signs.

It’s pretty sad to see these kind of stuff appearing at Anime Events where I guess ppl might think is a more reliable place to get genuine ones

High props to you man for always making videos in English it makes it entertaining to hear what you say

I'm glad you find my videos entertaining. English is actually my first language, despite me looking Chinese and stuttering at times (because i think faster than i speak lol). My Chinese isn't that good actually, especially on the vocabulary side. I only studied the language in primary school, good enough for communication and shopping online.

As soon as a shop sells one bootleg, just assume their products are all bootleg
@sweetybait Жыл бұрын
the seller at an event like this is usually honest because they tell you if the figure is not original, at least it was like that in my country :') and you can actually see what problem they had before buying it in person because bootleg will always come with some minus

I don't buy anime figures from conventions because the price is usually higher because of the booth fee. But going to see a bootleg version of each character is interesting. I hope the shop just put up a sign showing which one is the bootleg version. I don't want any newcomer to get the wrong impression that the figure industry is full of low-quality figures.

Yeah, i realised that just earlier today. Initially she reminded me of a character and figure from Punishing Gray Ravens, made by Good Smile.

@EXkurogane Жыл бұрын
This is Ikea penang. It's on the mainland southern side near the second penang bridge, at Batu Kawan.

rough, untreated jaggy edges also seems like a very common issue with bootleg. if the edges are treated maybe I can accept it; but cannot unsee those jaggy edges, definitely won't buy those.

I don’t care if there bootleg or not as long as they look good genuine ones are so expensive

Sorry to say this, you need change your spec. So many mistake you did. 1. The price for the Hatsune Miku Land of the Eternal is 1799, maybe your spec is too old to see the 1 or what. Rm799 I would buy instant since you say japan is selling 27000 yen which is Rm850+. 2. Original figure will have their company and series printed at the front of the box, and most scale figure is with the original certificate sticker with it which bootleg dont have, using the printing on the box is a bad way. 3. Your chinese is super bad, it write "box damage, Draw if win figure get free", is not win figure and get this damage box. Is good you teach people how to identify bootleg, but the method you give is incorrect.

1. The print on the price is not exactly clear so i might have misread it. My bad. 2. No, not all original figures have certificate stickers. Major titles like Fate series has a Type Moon sticker, Genshin stuff have their own sticker, etc. As for HJapan stickers, only scale figures by Good Smile + their branches (Max Factory, etc), as well as Alter scales have it. That is provided that figure was distributed by Hobby Japan. If a genuine figure came from a a different distributor, it wouldn't have the HJ sticker. That is an official distributor sticker, not an authenticity certification sticker. Genuine figures by Kotobukiya, for example, and many other brands won't have those stickers. Newer bootleg figures no longer follow the original figure's box design, but older one from many years ago still do. That Good Smile Saber Alter is one such example of a very old bootleg. 3. The box damage part, what I'm saying is that the figure shops are using box damaged goods as giveaways for lucky draws, and that is a good strategy to get rid of stuff they can't sell.
