You never showed us how to identify which one is a neutral and which one is the ground?
@awankawan50935 ай бұрын
I wish there is video on how to tell between neutral and ground wires . Both will show 120/240 .

Finally someone to record a video that simply explains the whole process.

Someone had to do it!

I like how it was shown each contact was touched to demonstrate the common and ground and hot wires. Sometimes inference isn’t obvious. Thank you.

You can identify the hot wire but how will you know if the other wire is neutral or ground. It's one or the other but how do you know which one it is? Does it matter? Can you do this test while the wires are connected to an outlet. Like remove the outlet from the box and test the wires while they are still connected?

It does matter. Putting neutral where ground belongs increases possibility of electrocution if the hot comes loose.

@@WrongTimeline Do you know which one is neutral and which is ground in this video?

Just have to go by color for now. How to do it electrically? I’m still searching.

Question. I found the hot wire but not sure which of the other two is neutral and which is ground. (All 3 are the same color)

Me too. I found the hot wire. But still can't tell which is neutral or negative. This video didn't show how

Method 1: find a second outlet. Turn off circuit breakers for both outlets, probe voltage to ensure there is no power (for safety). Set meter to resistance, insert one probe into the ground of your second outlet. Now, use your second probe to check your ground and neutral. The neutral shouldn’t have continuity. If both have continuity, you have short somewhere that needs resolving before using this method. Method 2: find your grounding rod. Similar to above, shut off all circuit breakers first, clamp your first probe to the grounding rod, and then use your second probe to inspect neutral and ground. Again, the ground has continuity and neutral shouldn’t. If your multimeter cables aren’t long enough (another outlet could be several feet away, and a grounding rod could be, say, 50 feet away) you could jank together the probe wire into an extension cord and then use the other end of the extension cord to insert/connect to the multimeter. Be mindful of the added resistance for long wires or weakly pressed connections.

I watch you every video at least twice, they are very useful, especially tutorials with a multimeter.

Question, when touching exposed wire with multimeter, does the common lead need to be touching a ground first?
@ElectroUniversity2 жыл бұрын
It doesn't matter which wire you touch first.
