A few years ago I bought several different lantana plants, all different colors, and they were gorgeous. Then I noticed the baby plants popping up here and there but they didn't produce flowers, just produced like a puffy ball. I didn't think much of it at first but these dang things are growing EVERYWHERE in my yard, in my potted plants, in the cracks in patio, in my potted orchids, in all of the garden beds, etc. I can't get rid of them and it is driving me crazy. I am CONSTANTLY pulling them out. If they flowered at least they would be pretty. I had pulled the original plants out about three years ago and never replanted but I just can't get rid of these plants, they just keep popping up. Grrrr!

Sigh, I just bought a lantana, white with yellow center and sandpaper leaves. It's from a small nursery. When I got home I googled to research it further and stumbled onto your video. Also, I didn't notice them in the store, but they have the pink/yellow combo on their website. I'm in Dallas, so maybe they are not as invasive here, but there's plenty other beautiful flowers so I don't care to find out, so back it will go. It's so disappointing that nurseries carry bad plants. Also they pass off as perennials plants that aren't perennial in your zone. You would think they would make themselves more knowledgeable, especially the smaller nurseries.

@@WildFloridian I have recommended your sight to family and friends - hope you get a lot more subscribers. We have had two remarkable moths come to visit this week - a pair of luna moths and the one died peacefully in our garage - we are going to frame it - it is so beautiful! Then last night and this morning a female Sweetbay moth - again large and beautiful - got some good pictures! The sweetbay (magnolia viginiana) are all around us in the woods - the host plant for the Sweetbay moth. I have found out the so many of our trees are host plants. Now, that I understand this - it makes me want to cry when developers cut down our native trees and put up non-native species.

Super helpful video - thank you! I have a funny story about Lantana. It was the first flower that I remember noticing as a kid. I was about 5 years old and we had a ton of what I now think was L. camara 'Spanish Flag' (or something similar) growing along the road by my house, and I would tell everyone they were called "wildflowers" as if that was their actual scientific name or something. I don't know why or where I got the idea, but I was convinced that was what they were called. Everything other plant had "flowers" but these were "WILD flowers". I guess I was born to be a plant nerd lol!

Ha ha ! You may have heard an adult say they were going WiLD !. Are you familiar with Foxtail weed ?. I got off my school bus, picked a bouquet of them and rushed to gift them to Momma. She smiled and asked me what they were." They are Toodies ?". I knew they were not flowers, and they tickled my nose. The nickname stuck...to Me !.. I became Toody girl, Toodie Doo, Toodie Lou, etc. Ha ha !.

Just to clarify - The Lantana Depressa you discussed as a native plant is only considered a native plant in Florida, right? So wouldn't it be considered an invasive lantana anywhere else? I bring this up because KZbin can put this video in front of people from anywhere in the world, but the advice may not apply everywhere.

Maybe I missed this but do the native species have the same root-suppressing effects on other plants that the invasive ones do? And how many feet does this effect work - 3" past the plant or 30'? Thanks. Time to dig out some lantana from the front.

My mom would've been so disappointed in me because I bought six of these today. LOL I remember these when I was a kid and I always consider them a weed but I bought them anyway. I only bought them because they are pretty and I wanted something different but I'm going to pull them up tomorrow and buy some good old trusty Pentas.

I found a wild lantana plant that I’m trying to determine if I should take cuttings of. It has the curled leaves that look native, but it also has red/orange/yellow flowers..think it’s the invasive one because of those colors?

Thank you so much for all your Lantana Videos. You are very thorough! I love plants that attract butterflies! Sadly I saw this video after buying a Hanging Hybrid Lantana at Home Depot :( Now I feel terrible. The Fact that it is a Hanging Hybrid Lantana, still make it invasive in Miami, Fl?

Will native lantana attract mosquitoes like invasive ones? Guessing here its the many leaves offering hiding, maybe aggressive smart pruning will detract from mosquito-attractive clustered leaf spaces?

@luvfunstuff2

Try this for any video that plays too fast for you. Tap the screen and select the settings button - looks like a cog wheel - then select playback speed. By choosing .75 it will slow down the video to 3/4 speed. You can also select closed captioning to help clarify what's being said. Obviously going higher in numbers (ex: 1.25, 1.5, 2.0) will speed up the playback speed in case you encounter painfully slow speakers 😅
