Jim I really love that you don't only do native plants, I know natives are great for the environment, but people like us from the tropics where our natives are just green weeds and have little to no garden appeal, rely on commercial plants like lantana and other flowering ones that u cover, please continue doing what you're doing, I've had other channels in the past that have completely converted to native plants only and I had unsubscribed 😢 because I can't relate to what they have there, love the work! Waiting for the next video on the best plants for pollinators!

I am in Indianapolis snd grow lantana in pots. I cut them way back in the fall, store them under lights at 60 degrees in the garage and they thrive. The trunks are getting larger and I may turn them into bonsai.

My lantana in Mesa, Az is spreading out like a tree with spindly legs that branch out rather than being a shrub like what you have. How do I correct this as I want a shrub that is leafy and coloful. It's under the shade of a mesquite tree and gets watered regularly. It's flowering, but looks weird!

When I saw the title of this video I thought "Ah, well, I have failed with lantana 2 summers in a row, why would I want to transplant any?" WOW! You surprised me with new information - 'Miss Huff' is cold tolerant and good in my area. I had been buying ornamental (annual?) varieties in fiddly sizes, which didn't do well. Now I know what to plant next spring - 'Miss Huff'. I will buy them in 1-gallon sizes.

hi Jim couple questions for you could you have took that plant and made four smaller plants out of it? It would look ugly cuz you would have a full plant cut into pie shapes but would probably fill in pretty fast. Also what is the purple plant behind in the spot you moved the lantana, not the Mexican sage but the one thats in the gray pot?

@JimPutnam
@JimPutnam 4 жыл бұрын
They tag them annuals for sale in areas where they won't survive the winter. It should be hardy here, but it may be best to overwinter it in the container until spring. Just keep it from freezing solid, but it can be out on warmer days

Hi Jim from Frisco, Texas! Thanks for the helpful video. I have a Lantana & several other established perennials that will need to be transplanted elsewhere to keep from losing them as we're about to dig a pool & several elements of my backyard will have to change. I also have established Hawthorne's in the same bed that are 4 1/2 years old I'd like to save as well, can they be moved? I'm also curious to know what plant in the container is to your left of the transplanted lantana & to your right in the container? Purple is my favorite color & I'd like to add both of these to my landscape! Enjoy your channel & keep the informative videos coming!🙂

I had a gorgeous lantana this year but then I noticed it was getting smaller and smaller and I couldn't figure out what was happening. I figured either a groundhog or squirrel got ahold of it, but it smells so strong that I couldn't make sense of it. Finally when it was more than halfway gone, I had enough and moved it to a safer area. It's doing great now but I really hope it'll come back next year. How late is too late to transplant a lantana in zone 7A? Also do you know of any animals that eat lantana or make a nest from it?
@JimPutnam
@JimPutnam 4 жыл бұрын
Most things avoid eating lantana, so I'm not sure what was working on it. Rabbits will eat almost anything. In 7a I would be concerned moving it even now. You can move it and maybe put some leaves over it when it gets really cold in January.
