In this video, I will show you how to identify the wattage of resistors by their actual size, it is very handy especially when dealing with the used resistors. It is easy and simple. Step by step in details.

Thank you, honestly the first video to explain wattage and size, without some nerd babbling in some other direction concerning resistors

I have one that I around 3mm so I guess it's 3.9 mm red red gold gold ,does that mean it's 2.2 ohm at 1/8 watt & can I go higher if a1/4 watt or 1/2 watt is all I can find locally
@diymade21759 ай бұрын
Spot on. You have a resistor with its values of 2.2 ohm & 1/8 watt which can certainly be replaced by a resistor such as: 2.2 ohm & 1/4 watt or 2.2 ohm & 1/2 watt or 2.2 ohm & 1 watt etc. enjoy your experience. Thanks! 👍

I have three resistors that burned up but still give a reading. Thanks to your guide I have determined that there are two Watts but each one reads a different ohm reading. Reads 5.4 ohms the second one reads 5.6 ohms the third one reads 5.7 ohms. How do I figure out what's the actual ohm for these three resistors? Any help would be appreciated
@diymade21753 ай бұрын
Thanks for your interested! There are the standard resistor's value tables such as the system of E24, E48, E96 etc. Taking the system of E96 as an example which its resistor's value has 1% tolerance across range: 1.0, 1.02, 1.05 ... 5.11, 5.23, 5.36, 5.49, 5.62, 5.76, 5.90 ...9.65, 9.76, 9.88 ohms i.e. so you can match three of your resistors to the closest values of the system E96. However as you've indicated: "three resistors that burned up but still give a reading", in the most cases the resistor's value(s) would go up after burned and their reading would be varies depending on their burned condition. There was not much you could do unless, unless you could pin point the function of three resistors in the circuit then you'd compare to the similar circuit(s) to eliminate the other values. Good luck! 👍👍

Very useful, thank you. but does this apply even if the Resistor is made by a different company?
