In this videos we go over how to identify sphalerite in polish section. These include its grey colour, it's lack of bireflectance and the fact that its isotropic, and its distinctive internal reflections.

What different with galena ?

Galena is lighter in colour, often has little triangles plucked out, doesn't have internal reflections and is a little softer.

No but I didn't really try. It's tough with reflected light, a silicate of some variety. Some is just pits in the polish mount too. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
