Does Winged Sumac need a pollinator or different species of sumac to produce berries.

Wondering how to know when this species is ready to harvest. It seems the color varies from species to species. Staghorn seem to get a deeper burgundy color. Are these going to be lighter? Mine are super sticky with a mixture of a burgundy and orange hue. I don't want to wait too late...a few of the heads have some berries that seem to by drying up, but most "appear" to be perfect for harvest. Just can't find much on how to tell when to harvest this species. Thanks!

I live in San Diego California and we have a shrub called lemonade berry or rhus integrifolia and I wanted to know if that plant is toxic?

The berries are safe to use. That's why it's called lemonade berry. We just posted a video on how to make sumac ade. The plant we use is different but the process is the exact same for your local species.

@@LegacyWildernessAcademyI just found 2 of these on my property! What time of year will the berries ripen? I want to put in my calendar to make sure I don’t miss making the aid to drink. ❤
