I watched this korean video so many times with subtitles but one day I just turned it off and decided to focus on the audio I realised there were words I knew and could pick up but becoz I was reading the subtitles I didn't pick it up beforr

Repetition definitely is key for learning a language. I think one of the sentences I learned pretty early was "다시 한번 들어 봐요" when listening to recordings they played over and over again and "다시 한번 말해주세요" 😃

In Korean the words fun and easy mean work your butt off :). Seriously, you've layed out the process for learning Korean and it's going to require repetition. I think you have done the hard job of structuring the material in the best fashion for us to do our part of repeatedly listening, reading and memorizing. Now we have to take the tools you've given us and apply utilize them.

For other learners, I might recommend downloading the audio, then editing it in audacity so it only includes the reading. Then you can listen to it on your phone, looped automatically, during your downtime, like on your commute. It's a lot more convenient than having to locate the time stamps and manually go back to repeat. Or, just ask a Korean friend to record themselves reading it to you. That might be easiest.

Viewers can also slow down the videos by clicking/tapping on the “Playback Speed” option and gradually work up to “Normal speed”. This can be a tremendous help as well. To find “Playback Speed”, tap/click the video screen. At the upper-right corner of the videos, there is a vertical 3 dot symbol (next to the circle with the ‘i’ in the middle). Simply tap/click on that symbol and the Playback Speed option is shown at or near the bottom of that list👍🏽👍🏽 Thanks for your hard work Unnie!!

Your English pronunciation is so good, it feels weird hearing you make a small grammar mistake here and there. You legit sound like a native English speaker, from your pronunciation and accent alone.
@shinytomoon4 жыл бұрын
Reading it and listening at the same time first is key for me. I think a good thing for me is step one: watch the Korean show/movie/etc with the English subtitles, step two: watch it again with just the Korean subtitles, step three: watch it again with no subtitles for either language and just listen. I need to see the native word written first and match it to what I'm hearing. That way by the third time or more I am much more familiar and I can "see" the native words just by hearing it now that the subtitles have been through my ears and eyes and are now in my head. It's not a photographic memory by any means but it helps. And the shadowing and repetition is obviously essential. I have the Korean keyboard as the second keyboard on my Mac and even though I'm not 100% correct each time when typing, for instance ㄱ from the "R" key or ㅐ from the "o" key I'm getting there and the more I do it the better I get at typing with the Korean alphabet instead of the English alphabet. I need to practice more writing with my hand, typing the keys gets the order of each letter, though. So if I can remember it by typing writing it won't be as hard. I do think they are three pillars that should be learned simultaneously and strengthened at the same time. I wouldn't want to practice reading and writing and not also focus just as much on listening and speaking. Anyway. 선생님 감사합니다!
