Your videos have helped me learn to bunny hop. The Eureka moment for me was realising after I'd done the down and back to initiate was to actually let the front wheel come up. I was doing everything too quickly. I'm currently working on thrusting my hips further forward as all the videos show the hips going close to the bars. I think that will help get the back higher. I also think bunny hops are nicer when you land on 2 wheels, not the front.

Does bike geometry influence your hops? I've got a cube race one XC bike, my only bike. The saddle is quite low when I put it down with the dropper (most important upgrade, wow), but the bike, like many XC bikes, is quite short compared to a trail bike. But this video explained some of my mistakes very well. Guess I just need to practice more.

Is it important to hold back vertically? Because when I try to manual it looks like I'm trying to touch my saddle with my stomach. My hips are above the rear axle but the front wheel does not go high enough. If I accent on my back I can't go back enough. Or maybe the thing is real fast moving?

When Blake hops he gets the bars really close to his thighs. I've been trying to do this but not succeeding. I'm using my weight to bring the front up and then exploding upwards with my hips. Do I need to pull the bars in or move my hips further forward. My bunny hops are decent but I want to learn how to bring the bars in. All the videos say about using your weight so I'm not pulling on the bars at all with my arms.

Curious, @4:31 do I see a little bit of back brake there? If so, does that actually help? The tire just looks like it stops before it leaves the ground...
@aljowen5 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was the brakes. I think he was almost stationary when doing the hop. So the rear wheel rolled forward at an accelerated pace as the front of the bike lifts up*, but when the front reaches peak height, the rear wheel stops moving forward, hence no longer needs to rotate. *If you were to view it on a 2d graph, as blake manuals, the difference between x axis value of the wheel hubs would get smaller as the front wheel follows that arc motion.

Should I get a Whyte g170s or an aluminium canyon torque?
@Jamie-eg8hr5 жыл бұрын
Whyte G170s. I have an 805, which has got the same (or very similar) geometry, and its a dream to ride, so i can imagine the g170 feels similar, but even nicer due to the longer (and nicer) fork, rear shock, and over all nicer components. My 805 is supper tough, and i ride trickier stuff on it than any full sus bikes ive ridden, so the g170 is probably even tougher than that. I really want to get one, but cant afford one right now 😢😢😭😭 (if anyone has a spare 2 grand to send me, i wouldnt object haha)

Same here too. However, as recent as this year (I'm in my 40's) I managed to get the front wheel up a little bit in the right way, and that changed a lot. I finally knew what to aim for, and although I still struggle, at least I know what to do. There may be a lot of videos on bunny hops, but they did help. GMBN kept telling me how to do it and that's what drives me to get better at it. Now I need to take my bike out to practice more.

@lucifer579x5 жыл бұрын
I would also like to add that bike geometry plays a part as well. A long reach, for example, makes it harder (not impossible) to lift the front wheel. For example, doing it on a hard tail cross country bike with a fairly long steering stem will be significantly harder than on a dirt bike with shorter wheel base and shorter steering stem.
@osochocolatoso4 жыл бұрын
Is it easier to bunny hop on a full sus??? I guess it might be since it's easier to translate momentum on the different axis, right? I'm finding quite difficult to bunny hop on my hardtail, then again I just started MTB about 6 months ago 🤷🏻♂️
