I totally agree. However, I think the reason why people aren´t putting call to actions on CVs or cover letter is because traditionally it´s a big no-no to tell the employer what to do and how to respond to the application. As you mentioned, re-using the same CV is a bad idea. Personally, I think sending the same CV and especially cover letter to multiple companies is almost as stupid as sending the same sales pitch on email to different buyers. You´re not gonna get a good result because the receiver will notice the difference between a generic CV or request and a personal one.

Fantastic advice! I've watched a few CV how to videos before finding this one and you've really inspired me to take a different approach. Much of the available advice is aimed at jobs in sales just as you stated here, and it just doesn't feel right. It also doesn't feel right listing all the awful jobs I've had over the passed 5 years just to fund my creative urges, not to mention the various GCSE's, GNVQ's and diplomas. I tried to make a video CV a couple of times but I'm not great on video. Maybe it will take a bit of practice, but in the meantime, I've got to seriously snazz up my CV! I'm in my final year as an undergraduate and we recently had someone from the jobs advice team lecture us about writing CV's and cover letters, and even in universities the old fashioned approach is suggested for every course from nursing to photography.

Why does a cv even matter? If the music is good and they have good people skills what else matters?
