Getty-Dubay italic penmanship resources are the best. We turned a whole school around using this program.
@4764293 жыл бұрын
Exactly! I got Getty and Dubay's book _Write Now_ , which is targeted towards adults, and it dramatically improved my handwriting. In school, I only learned ball-and-stick printing and looped cursive. It was drilled into us so hard that I never tried any other method. I went through college taking volumes of notes in looped cursive. It was almost unreadable. I switched to Getty-Dubay Italic, and now I write faster and more legibly.

One recommendation from Getty -Dubay is that when doing joined writing, you don't need to connect every letter. If you naturally connect some, it's fine. They don't all have to be connected in a word.

Remember everyone, your writing doesn’t always need to be clean and perfect, it depends on what your writing, if your writing notes for an exam that no one else is gonna read with little time or a lot of notes to write in less time it’s okay if it’s messy as long as you can read it, mean while if your writing on something others are going to be reading it’s best to try keeping your handwriting neater and easily readable.

Great video! When I used to teach elementary school, we sometimes would use a slant board to help kids with their writing. An easy way to do that is to use the cover of a binder with the spine turned away from you. Perfect angled area to write and binders come with varied spine widths so you can use a 1" or 1.5 or even 2 inch binder or larger.
@FerralVideo2 жыл бұрын
You brought back *memories.* My parents built me a special slant board to use in school. Thank you for reminding me of it. It was an impressive piece. A normal clipboard would velcro onto a slightly larger plank of stained wood. A pivoting L-shaped piece was fastened to the back of the plank. When in the lower position, the short end of the L was at the top of the board, giving a shallow tilt. When in the raised position, the short end would lay flat on the table and the long end would support the board, giving a significantly steeper tilt.

Very helpful info. Find inspiration: Though I print alright, thank you grade school drafting course, I still have a whole folder on my desktop dedicated to screen shots of other peoples handwritten study notes. It serves as inspiration, while also feeding into my addiction when they display them with the pens used. They help motivate me to practice my handwriting and it's so satisfying trying to duplicate them, or create something different. Lol, oh and not to mention, but it all gives me the excuse to buy more stationery.

I’ve enjoyed these videos and agree that slow purposeful practice is important. About 20 years ago I chose to write better both with print and cursive styles. I learned to lightly grip the writing instrument and use my whole arm to move my hand. My hand rests on the writing surface and since I use a gentle grip, my hand ‘wiggles’ on the relaxed side. My hand doesn’t tire and I write more consistently. After a few years I could write notes while just glancing at my progress. I’m always trying to find the perfect balance of speed and consistency.

Having grown up on handwriting worksheets based on Futura, I’ve always taken inspiration from fonts instead of handwriting. My current handwriting is based on Cabin and Clearview. I’ve modified my handwriting from these fonts to avoid letter flipping, using exit strokes like what Raleway font does. (Letter flipping is something kids and some adults do where letters like b, d, p, and q get mixed up.) My goals now are to conform my handwriting to accessibility standards with optimal character heights and stroke widths.

For hand printing "inspiration" you can also choose a font from a writing program like Word and print out the alphabet or the combinations like in the video. It can be hard to choose one though lol. Eventually I ended up going with "Aharoni" because I liked it the best and wasn't too complicated.🙂

I have two major styles. What usually ends up in my notebooks is a tight, scribbly, high speed chickenscratch that breaks most of the rules in this guide. And $deity help you if I'm using an ultra fine point. Meanwhile when I'm writing up something more important, like an official report for work, I'll slow way down. The sharp, narrow style is still there, but it obeys MOST of the rules laid out here, and looks FAR better for it.

I take most of my notes during meetings which I am also chairing so I have to write fast enough to keep up with the action. One thing I do, though, is to go over my notes after the meeting with a different colour pen and rewrite words that are so badly written I won't be able to figure out later what I wrote - then I have my original notes in blue and my neat writing alongside in green.
