In this video I go through the Most Fundamental Techniques that pro players use to get fast times. They are going to improve your records on just about any track, and if you are able to consciously think about these when playing you should be able to go much faster. I hope it helps!
If you would like to play the tracks in the video they are 04, 02 and 08 from the Fall 2023 Campaign.

Nice tutorial! One thing I would say is make sure you mention when something you are using is a plugin (speed splits, speedometer, etc). From experience, I can tell you I was very confused when I first wanted to use them and I couldn't find them anywhere in the options, and it took me a bit to figure out I needed to download plugins for that.

I usually just lurk and pick up tips from your other videos but I wanted to say how much I loved this kind of video. It helps so much to have the 'not so intuitive' tech demonstrated like this. Quick tip for tutorials, explain every word, specially in the first one, many might not know what you mean when you say "air time" or "full speed", those are not really "hard" terms and most are pretty easy to understand, but making sure everyone knows exactly what you mean is important in tutorials

The unfortunate truth is that people who are really good at something are generally not the best at coaching - mainly because they literally can't understand why other people don't get it. Wirt should be able to make a great series out of this if he continues, but these kind of glaring omissions are probably gonna be pretty common.

What a great video! I am currently "coaching" a friend of mine who has never played Trackmania before and I will definitely send him this video right after I finish this comment. You're doing really good explaining the optimal lines, but what I think would help even more to bring your point across and visualize what you are talking about, would be a tool that let't you draw on your screen. That way you could just paint in what you are talking about while you explain it. As a long time Trackmania enjoyed myself, I can perfectly understand the little tricks and lines you are explaining but I think someone with absolutely 0 experience might have a harder time imagining what you are trying to teach them. With this little detail you might help even more people getting started and enjoying this amazing game than you already do. Keep up the great work!!

Thanks for the tutorial, they're really helpful for a newbie like me. For feedback I think it'd be nice to explain some mechanical things like the 'tippy taps' for speed sliding (how fast am I supposed to tap or how can I tell that it's working). Something else I've found helpful in tutorials forr other games would be drawing on the map (dunno if that'd be possible without a lot of editing) to explain lines if they're more complicated/the map is more complicated.

Nice to see how they apply here, somethings I already learned in your content but had a hard time learning and doing them in the last campaign. Maybe I can give it another shot with your tutorials. I really believe they can help people and me improving in the trackmania and therefore having more fun! I'm really hoping there will be more tutorials with such good examples and maybe later more advanced techniques. Like gears for example. Maybe in that case a breakdown of the plug-ins you use would be helpful to better understand, where to get them and how to use them to get better times

Hope you continue this series. I'm at a point where I know most of the necessary mechanics, but I have trouble knowing when to utilize them. For example, identifying if a corner is a release, drift, or if I need to just full speed it. Or even in this fall campaign, when to ice slide and when to just drive it out. Obviously I can just check world record, but being able to identify these things while playing the map would be a good skill to have tips for if possible.

As a sort of new player who watches lots of vids on trackmania, i realized theres quite a lot of essential knowledge thats pretty hard to come by / get explained. The way you analyze maps and make decisions for what is faster is super helpful, would love to see more in the future for more advanced maps. Also, a thing that i find myself struggling with is knowing what lines are faster on certain ground types (most notoriously grass / plastic). More info on ideal steering angles / the weird plastic highground acceleration would be great too

This video is super helpful, the only thing I would love to see on top of it would be some drawn in lines when you are explaining racing lines. This would make it much easier to visualise what you mean when you day things like 'this line would take you into the outside wall' ( 5:45 ) . adding in some arrows or lines would make it easier to see what you mean when you are talking about racing lines and corner setups. I like how you show the process of not getting things perfect and working towards perfecting the tactic on each obstacle, which very few tutorial videos do. BUT I'd consider maybe cutting in the perfect example first, then going back to the process of getting there, because as someone who knows very little about the subject matter, it was hard to even understand exactly what you were getting at each time until you started having some better runs.

You'd think this woulda been a thing sooner but nonetheless grateful to see more educational content bout Trackmania. Your explanations were excellent as you detail how a first timer would experience the tracks while also providing information about stuff to help the player understand and improve and to understand why Trackmania players would think to do what they do when they race like not wanting to be in the air too long cuz you're losing time not accelerating that kinda thing. Keep at it, Wirtual.

Been meaning to give Trackmania a try for a while now (played a bit of TMNF but no 2020), and this video pushed me to finally download it. I can safely say this video helped quite a bit. I was able to get Author Medals for 04 and 02, and it felt really good (especially 04's). Going for golds in general, and the most noticeable thing about finally playing this game is how freakin' hard it is, and how easy you make it look. I got golds without too much trouble until the bobsled map, and that took forever to finally get a gold on. Even prior to that though, it was clear how much optimization could be done at every level. The gold medals appear to be pretty forgiving, even into the red tracks, but one thing I noticed is they typically start off strong and then flub the ending. This is really smart, because it gives newer players something to follow along with, while still letting them get a gold medal without having to actually be better than the car they've been using to learn. Currently in the red tracks, and making progress. Pretty big step up, but I'm hoping I can at least get all golds to unlock the black tracks (and probably proceed to feel like I've learned nothing all over again). The game is super addicting, and finally giving it a shot has given me new found appreciation for how great you are at the game, as well as how much you've shown new players to make the game more accessible. This video is more direct about it, but you've always been good about explaining what you're doing and why, and so even just trying to get gold medals means new players can ignore all of the super advanced tech but still get a sense of how to maintain speed, reduce air time, and optimize pathing. Great stuff, and thanks for the awesome content!

Love to see a tutorial series! I would also love to see a video on how to practice TM. How to get faster, how to get more consistent, ghosts on or off, how to learn different styles, that kind of stuff. Looking forward to seeing more videos like these!
