100% agreed with Linus’ concerns on their budget lineup. What AMD are doing at the high end level is very good, especially with their X3D chips. But we need more options from them at the lower end like the Ryzen 3s
@mikefarino43686 ай бұрын
Essentially right now AMD has no reason to make Ryzen 3s, because of the chiplet architecture along with the TSMC node, there are almost no chiplets that have less than 6 good cores. they would either have to waste a good chip that they cant produce enough of that they could sell as a ryzen 5, or they would have to have another design for a 4 core chiplet, neither of which are smart financial decisions when they can instead just discount the previous gen ryzen 5s to be the same price as what they would sell ryzen 3s at. Producing a 4 core ryzen 3 would cost more than a 6 core previous gen ryzen 5, be slower in 90% of activities and take away capacity from the current gen ryzen 5-9 and Epyc chips.
@evansotall51366 ай бұрын
I think if your in a budget your gonna have to stick to a 3600->5600 could they use a $120 am5 around the performance of a 5600x yes but then no one would buy am4 as they are still releasing on that platform they want that alive aswell as a budget option I believe
@bad_metaphor6 ай бұрын
Keeping the AM4 lineup alive *IS* the budget option.
@ehrlichgesagt8636 ай бұрын
Really why would they support ryzen 3 still? It's logical completely outdated, we don't see Intel make random low End CPU that cost under 100 because there is no market for that really that would make sense. Most spend around 700 on a PC so a 100€-200 CPU will be the best for most of the market
@jannegrey6 ай бұрын
It's possible that 7500F, 7600 and 7600X will get cheaper when 9600X launches. All 3 of them are already below 200$. So while it isn't entry level, it is a decent option for those who have 700-800$ budget (building new from scratch). Especially if 7500F will go down further 20-30$. And 7600 approaches it's price (though it should be 150-160$ max). But yes, entry level for now is Intel's domain (they do rock with their i3's - though I'd wait if Arrowlake maybe has something new, powerful and cheap if one can wait). Though if you're building something without discrete graphics AMD APU's are competitive. Though still expensive. Especially if you need to buy case, PSU and stuff like that - where buying cheap isn't the best option.

Current situation AMD vs Intel very much like the time of AthlonXP vs Pentium4. Pentium4 had hard time to compete against AthlonXP. Intel will be releasing its Lunar Lake In just a few months, and Arrow Lake at the end of this year. Most likely it will be like Athlon XP vs Core2 core time. If this is the case, history will repeat again (AMD stock price plummeted after Intel released core2 core). Keep in mind that AMD market cap is 2X of Intel, and only has about 50% of Intel revenue, and higher PE than Intel. There are lot of bubbles in AMD stock price as of now. Intel wants to gain market share back. The only way to do this is to compete on the price. Both companies may not have big revenue/profit growth, but the gap of the two company market cap will be closer, and even reverse.

4:48 Yeah, I was concerned about that as well, but the more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Ryzen 3 doesn't really has a place when you need an expensive motherboard and a pricey kit of DDR5 RAM. Instead, some well-established AM4 CPUs with 6 and 8 cores will do until the AM5 platform looks suitable for budget-friendly PCs. Points to AMD for recognising that and extending support for AM4.
@aoyuki14096 ай бұрын
this. for actual budget customers, AM4 is the way to go. Ryzen 3 5300 and Ryzen 5 5500 are still on shelf and constantly restocked, and they cost *less* than when Ryzen 3 3300x and 3600 was released for basically slightly better performance. why would any sane budget customers would invest in the still new AM5 and DDR5. you dont future proof on a budget. you cut as much corners as you can while getting what you need.

This indeed. If someone is going to be buying an AM5 system, they're probably not building just an ok system. If you want that, buy AM4 as it's a lot cheaper and will still give you great performance. Notable mentions are India, South America countries like Brazil, South East Asian countries like Indonesia Philippines Malaysia. for you, a typical motherboard costs $70-$100. a minimum wage American earns about 1.2k USD per month. a minimum wage Malaysian earns about RM1.5k which after conversion to USD (1 USD = about 4.69 myr) is a little over 300 USD. for first world countries, there is practically no difference between the price of a $70 last gen motherboard and a $100 current gen motherboard. its like a couple of days of spare change. for many of us in third world countries, its about half a month worth of emergency savings. if I have to pay $30 dollar extra for something, its the equivalent of having to sacrifice two weeks worth of lunch.

@@Cooe. Or they could just go back one generation and buy a 7000 series cpu that would be discounted due to the release of the 9000 series that would have more cores and probably be just as fast if not faster then the theoretical 9300x. There just seems no use for such a product nowadays due to the previous generation stuff being so good. No point in making niche products if the profit margin on them is going to be so small and worse, it's going to be in competition with your previous gen stuff at the same price point.

I can understand why AMD does not have a Ryzen 3 right now. Look at what they are doing with AM4 socket, they will likely do the same thing with AM5 but use the high end chips that failed to meet bench marks be the lower end Ryzen3
@vinicius4016 ай бұрын
I don't think that's what they're doing. Ryzen 3 would only make sense if you have a cheap motherboard to go with it. And since they expect to outsell Intel in the mid to high end across the board, it would be a waste for them to use wafers for cheaper products. Intel needs to step up and bite their share in order to AMD consider expanding their portfolio to lower budgets.

I went from an Athlon II X4 860K with 16 GB DDR3 2133 to a Ryzen 5 3600 with 16 GB DDR4 3200. What a night and day difference, I couldn’t imagine how I could ever fully utilize all that power! 🤣 I just new I was ready for a platform I could stretch out for just as long or longer than I stretched the previous system, I wanted this computer to last me for 10 years or longer. Fast forward to today and I have a Ryzen 7 5700X with 32 GB of DDR4 3600 and I’m planning on possibly getting a 5900XT when it comes out, and maybe a Radeon 8000 or 9000 series card, depending on software evolution I can probably run this computer for the next 15 years before I really feel a need to upgrade again to an entirely new platform, especially once I switch to Linux full time, I could probably go 20 years if components don’t start to die before then 😅.

No idea what the _exciting_ news here is supposed to be. AM5 compatibility and better IPC was a given, better EXPO support and lower TDPs is nice, USB4 and PCIe5 however is mostly irrelevant. Practically at this point Zen5 is hardly more than a refresh of Zen4. Which isn't necessarily bad, but also not what I'd call exciting. Lunar Lake is the much bigger news (doesn't equal better product).

Especially at the high-end. For gaming, AMD had the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which blew open the frame rates compared to Intel's i9 CPUs with about HALF of the power. For productivity, AMD is close to Intel or matches Intel while using significantly less power. If you want the best of the best, AMD is objectively better; Intel has no come back in the i7 or i9 range. Only the i3 and to some extent, the i5 range, are semi-competitve, and that's because Intel had had to cut prices because they would otherwise be worse value at the same price. And I would wait for Arrow Lake if you REALLY want to go Intel, becuase the current Intel platform is dead once Arrow Lake comes out.

I really hope AMD with Zen 6 can put 16 cores on each CCD on the consumer chips for 32 core and 64 threads along with 3D cache on those 16 cores. If they can keep that at 5Ghz+ and it works on AM5 while pulling 250w or less then Intel will be extremely screwed as they for now would have no way of countering that.

Like the other guy said, Zen 4 mobile chips have the GPU, but I think the problem is that everything is tuned for either QuickSync or NVENC outside of Windows, and AMF just isn’t good enough to be used in place of the current VA-API on Linux, which has to generalise its codebase to work with as many different encoders and GPUs as possible, and which will prevent these GPUs from reaching their decoding potential.
