I have been learning Russian for about a year and can hold some conversations, mostly small talk. Hi how are you, I am fine and you...and such. I speak with a native speaker maybe once every 2 weeks or so, but I don't understand all the words. With your advice I have been HEARING and understanding more than I have on my own for the full year I have been learning! I have just found your videos and what a help they have been! Thank you for sharing this with us!

This is why I find listening to music is very helpful, because if you like a song you will most likely try to sing along , and by doing so we improve pronunciation and intonation.

Just that it is a slow process. and remembering is hard too. Joe Dove That's a great article, thanks for sharing! I am currently working on my book "How Not to Speak Russian in 10 Years" and I'm describing a similar approach. It's far easier and more effective to engage into learning through other activities, that's true. That's perfect timing for sharing this article, I've already found some quite interesting bits in the article to support my theory, thanks! ;)

***** Yeah, that's one of the trickiest parts in learning Russian. It all comes with practice, don't worry! The more you try to engage into a real-life conversation, the more you get used to the flow of the conversation, its pace etc. You might find another video of mine helpful: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmrQfpasacukb6M Well, it's not all about comprehension, it concerns more speaking Russian, but it's a good practice and there's a nice exercise that will help you improve your listening comprehension as well!

I have been studying in Belarus for over an year and still have trouble listening and speaking in russian.. but as I went through this video if actually made sense to me that I'm beating my craft in the wrong method.. I haven't been learning Russian for that long, but I really want to thank you for this video! Learning the English language was easier for me, since I spent hours talking to foreigners in English while playing online video games. I am going to apply vocal lsitening in Russian now :). If you know how to pronounce words and syllables, it is much easier to understand words and their meaning. And like you said, it is more relaxing. :)

Dude, your heavy accent almost killed me. There are words in Russian starting with 'в' как ворота, ваза, возьми. If can pronounce these words correctly in Russian so you can do ' vocal' not 'wocal'. At first I thought your English sucks, but in fact you fave to work on your phonetics. Follow your own advice and listen and repeat correctly.

Sorry but you may think your pronouncing it right, but in reality you have an accent to. Even the slightest accent humans can pick up. For example England, Texas, Canada, Australia. You get my point. So try and be a little more respectful that is one thing Russians are good at; When they want to be.

You are right, his English pronounciation is not great, but his grammar is OK and what he speaks (the sentences) makes sense. He is not teaching English, anyway. And he is goodlooking, by the way, which is important for a teacher. And looks very Russian too! ))))
