I've been terrified of XL jumps ever since my injury on them 10 years ago. I'm wanting to get back to them and get my revenge. So that's what I'm training for now. It will likely take about a year to get to that point. This time I want to get footage hitting them. Over the past several years my friends all vanished from my life and my interests changed and I fell away from snowboarding. As a consequence, I gained a lot of weight and got in pretty bad shape. It's been 7 years since I was a decent snowboarder and 3 years since I have ridden one until last week, I made it to Woodward PC, and it felt so good to get turns in again. This channel has been a big part in me getting healthier and getting back into one of the best hobbies in the world. I'm down 10 pounds and I still have quite a way to go but I'm enjoying the journey. Thanks for your channel and the good vibes you put out there. Thanks Casey!

Thanks for the reminder that riding for yourself is huge. You don't always need the homies to hype you up, don't worry about who's watching, and it's not always about getting those camera shots. Just put your music in and flow! Often, I find myself snowboarding for the content or with the boys, and sometimes you just need a day to yourself to progress not only your riding, but your mind.

I always feel like your style is more accurate and flowy, and it totally makes sense now when you showed these strategic tips and constant self-awareness to improve (which are something I kind of figured out by myself as well). When snowboarding gets to the next level, random hours are not enough. Hours spent on a more or less right trajectory are a must. Love your videos! Keep up the good work!

C dub this vid is gold. At 50 I'm riding better than ever due to cross training, yoga, and good diet - just about to get my park instructor certification. Your tips are bangers. Quick list for dudes and dudettes who don't have easy mountain access: 1. Season's pass to local hill (ride as often as possible) 2. Physical fitness 3. Logical progression, building block style to prevent injuries. 4. Learn a skill or trick regular, then learn it switch before the next skill or trick. Peace out. Nice riding, C dub.

Great edit! If ever feel like dropping a heads up bout where you’re going riding, it’d be great motivation! I started riding at 45. I’ll never be a pro, but I feel good out there and ride clean. 1: Hammer the fundamentals. 2: Stretch, Core and Legs all winter. Consistent and light-medium work. 3: Hydrate. Rest. I’ve been working on jump this year. Making decent progress and staying healthy because the single largest risk factor, Edge Control!, has been hammered into shape. Hammer the fundamentals. There’s simply no way around it.

Cannot agree more with the "ride by yourself" tip. Riding with the homies is a blast, but youre preoccupied with a bunch of distractions. Riding alone leads to solid progress, even in a single day of riding. Just make sure you tell some one you're riding and wear a helmet if you're sending it!

Great tips bro. My biggest fear is rails. I just started boarding 2 years ago but averaging around 20 days. Pushing yourself is the key. Also what really has helped me is just learning how to fall, just not to panic when I know I’m not gonna land it and slide out gently .

Hey Casey, firstly great video! lots of great tips that I will keep in mind for the next time I'm going to be able to get on the mountain :). I was wondering if you could give me some snowboarding advice based on my story as a snowboarder as I really want to improve my riding skills. I think compared to the majority of your audience, I'm not based in the USA/Canada and instead have mostly lived in Europe and thus have only gone on snowboarding trips in the French Alps (specifically Tignes and Val d'Isere everytime). I've begun snowboarding since I was very young, around 3-4 and am now 20, and would comfortably say my snowboarding skill is quite advanced in terms of basic mountain riding and my overall style. I absolutely love going super fast down slopes with no difficulties but what I love most of all is riding pow which we sadly don't get enough of in the French Alps :p ! However I am writing this because whilst I do consider myself a good snowboarder, I am absolutely a novice at two things which I really want to improve on namely: riding switch and doing tricks/park riding. Unfortunately when it comes to snowboarding time I am mainly hindered by the fact that I simply don't spend enough time on it. As I live relatively far away from the Alps, I realistically only snowboard for a week per year (usually in Dec/Jan; although this year I am going again this late March) which is obviously a very very limited amount of time. Because I find this specific week really precious and spend it alongside my family, I always choose to skip over trying to practice my switch stance (goofy for me) for a full day and instead always snowboard with my regular stance which I am very comfortable with. Similarly with doing tricks and park features, there are unfortunately really not a lot of parks in the Alps either, and are usually closed or super icy. Over the last few years I've really tried to focus on completing a backside 360 but it has never worked out for me and had several sketchy heel-edge catches. And because there is no pow usually, I am not able to practice simple jumps on random mountain features either sadly. So overall I was just wondering if after reading my story, if you have any tips for me as I am going into my next trip soon :) I personally feel like before trying to do park features, I really want to learn riding goofy but feel very very uncomfortable with it and realise that I will likely have to dedicate time learning the basics all over again for the goofy stance; but if you have any other specific tips I would gladly appreciate those of course :D Looking forward to your next vid!

23 years old, started riding in 2018, broke my legs and had to learn how to walk again. Since then I’ve never had more than 7 days in a season and this season I’m pushing 60 days just trying to ride every day. Broke my arm a few days ago and still riding and trying to push my progression because I’m just so hungry to get good at my craft. The biggest thing I’ve used to help my improvement is to befriend all the local rippers and ride with them, get as many days as possible, ride in every condition whether it’s fresh groomers, slush, powder, ice, or chop, and to hit features that aren’t comfortable and ride the line between my comfort zone and pushing the bar a little. I’ve dramatically improved after adopting those ideas

I’m trying to double my doh but I’m struggling to push myself and not hold back. Because I typically ride alone I feel like I’m lacking that little push that forces you to ride to the edge of your skill. I think the tip about riding the same place consistently might be the key for me though. What’s more important in terms of progressing your skill; learning to ride faster while hitting side hits and doing basic flat ground tricks or focusing on a single trick until it’s mastered?

Don't be too proud to take a lesson. I'm an instructor who has been riding for over to 25 and I take clinics to improve both my teaching my riding! KZbin videos are great for tips, but an instructor at your level will be able to observe your body movements and help dial you in to get better faster. Quick tip, if you see some instructors at your hill ask them about who is a good instructor for learning ...(fill in the blank) and request for that suggested instructor.

Thats crazy haha, you guys do sauna with boxershorts? Here in Europe its full nude mandatory. Funny to see that cultural difference
@CaseyWillax

We wear board shorts cuz there’s a pool usually accompanied. And 90% of people are nasty I personally wouldn’t want the general public naked anywhere near me 😂

Yes, there is usually also a swimming pool accompanied with it here, and the facilities are also shared (the sauna and pool), dressing rooms are split, nobody bats an eye, the most normal thing in the world haha. People here are usually very clean, hygienic and discrete/respectful. Never had a bad experience tbh. Like I said, its funny to see the cultural differences 😄

But also analyzing yourself. Why didn't the trick work, and what will we do different next time? Ask yourself that after everything you do video yourself and compare yourself to pros. Look at the difffference
