I liked your ideas and have subscribed immediately ! It has been too long since I actually slept in a tent , but I can some stories . One thing to mention that costs little and made a difference for me was to use some kind of flexible material , thick rubber bands or bungee cord maybe , on guy lines .

Nigel, Having only ever been in a tent for the odd family holiday when I was young, and once as a "stay at home garden camping holiday" a few years back during COVID, I would never have thought of most of these. They are great hacks that I certainly will put into practise when I begin doing some wild, and not so wild, camping in upcoming walking holidays. Also, I was not aware of the zip lubricant and cleaner product, which I will now purchase to attempt to loosen the jammed hip pocket zips of my favourite day pack (which is probably only around 5 years old). Cheers, Ryk.

Some good tips. I tie a long bright cord to all my tent stakes, and if its very windy I use the loop on the cord to loop around the tent cord so it has no chance of coming off. You can double up tent stakes that way too. I see your point of having the door open, but you risk putting the tent up incorrectly if you dont close it before you stake it out.

Thanks appreciate the ideas. A fair point re the door. I should have said don’t forget to close once you’ve put your bag in! Cheers, Nigel

Thanks. I discovered the bottle top for the pegs not long ago - that’s a great one. Another is carrying a small sponge for taking off dew or rain drops from the fly in the morning when packing up - works a treat.
@AmblingTrails2 ай бұрын
Yep, that’s a good one, the weight of the water on the fly far exceeds the small sponge. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼😁

I use the same type of tent pegs as you and they can hurt your hand. I went to B & Q and bought a white plastic plumber's 'T' junction that they use for joining pipes together. I keep losing plastic caps.

Well that’s an interesting idea, will have to check out B&Q. Thanks for the tip. Cheers, Nigel

Very helpful thanks. What make is your hooded jacket?
@AmblingTrails2 ай бұрын
Hi Sue, the waterproof jacket is inov8 and the puffy is Montane, which are both hooded so was not sure which one you meant. I have been buying from both brands interchangeably, depending what sales they have on when I'm looking for a particular item. By signing up to their newsletters you can generally get decent discounts. Hope that helps and always happy to answer further questions, cheers. Nigel

@AmblingTrails Thanks. It was the puffy I was interested in. Will have a look for it.
