Fantastic, one of your best videos. It seems like backpacks/rucksacks always used to use external frames (metal), then the more modern style of internal structure came along. And now, full circle back to a visible, separate frame. You have made it so well. I bought your English language book: Swiss Army Knife Whittling in the Wild and would recommend it thoroughly to any of your YT audience. Great stuff.

Viele danke Felix for yet again a great friday vid. Great start to the weekend. I was finally able to source your book in South Africa. Have ordered a copy and in the spirit of things bought a victoriknox camp master. The last time I owned one was 30 years ago. Although I dont know it I will own it for long. I am planning to give it to my son. My intention is to use you book to teach my son knife safety and knife skills whilst doing great projects from the project genius himself. Love it Felix! Always enjoy seeing folks come up with their own variations of the Roycroft pack frame. I made one many years ago and still have it kicking about the house someplace. As I recall when I cut the staves for mine I used a measurement of my armpit to my wrist for the two uprights and then from my elbow to the tips of my extended fingers for the cross bar. For the suspension harness I picked up a length of cotton lead rope for lunging horses at a local feed supply store. It's reasonably comfortable and you have the added bonus of having cotton material at hand for making char in the field for the next fire mentality. Just have to whip the ends of the cotton rope to keep it from unravelling. Great video Felix!

Good job with this one. I have to say it is a great idea. As you said, it can be built using nothing but natural materials, which is a main goal of wilderness survival, not wasting materials. The only flaw I see is the grass rope waist belt, which would need constant retightening on a long or arduous hike. That could be cured with a toggle as well, by cutting one side slightly longer than necessary, lashing both ends of the rope, and using a toggle to secure together by untwisting a short section of the longer side and lashed in place. Untwist a section of shorter side and push toggle through, then release. Toggle needs to be slightly longer than the rope is wide and not very thick. I hope that helps.
@P_RO_2 жыл бұрын
YES! And the grass rope is wide enough to act as padding where a thin rope would dig in. It should be very comfortable.

Great job, as always. For your lashings, I was thinking I might try the Canadian jam knot. Uses less cordage, and you can work it up SUPER tight. Do you know that one? If not, you'll love it. Fun pack to build when you're traveling light, but find unexpected treasures to bring home. Here in Northern Canada, I could even use Spruce roots split and peeled to lash it! Keep these great videos coming.
